OTHER FOOTBALL - Miscellaneous
Let's get real ...... I challenge you all to find one single person anywhere in the world that has not had a racist thought or made a racist joke or comment at some point in their lives.

No one person has grown up in a vacuum ... Their life experiences form their views, morals and standards. From time to time people's experience and emotions will cause them to say or write things they later regret in the heat of the moment, it becomes racist when you act upon it or encourage someone else to act upon it. I try to treat everybody with respect and dignity irrespective of their heritage.

In my former occupation my employers took us all on racial awareness training, this involved us sitting in a room with several young black men and a social worker who was also black. We spent the day being racially abused for being white, my colleagues who were from ethnic groups were called bounty or coconuts. For those who don't know, this is a derogatory term aimed at black and Asian people who they deem are black on the outside and white on the inside, soliders, police officers, people who work for "THE MAN" etc. Whenever we tried to challenge their views and comments the social worker said that ethnic minorities can not be racist no matter what they say or do because they are minority groups. She would not accept it works both ways.

The media has a big part to play in stirring this up, their political agendas where anything now has to be black is rammed down people's throats, to those who are racist it justifies their beliefs, those who are not racist but have life experiences and occasionally say jokes or inappropriate comments start to feel under attack. I feel the same with veganism, I enjoy meat but am vilified in the media and by politically motivated vegan groups who target restaurants customers out enjoying a meal minding their own business. We are becoming an intolerant society where freedom of speech and thought are being crushed. Universities ban speakers because The students don't like their views, without reasonable debate these views grow and fester.

The problem in this case is stupidity and social media. People post on this sites, whether to friends or in response to an event in their life, in a second the post has gone but it remains forever in the domain. Think about your words and their effect on others before the event, after is too late. If you don't want something you say or think to come back and haunt you, then perhaps you shouldn't be posting it in the first place.

Bit of a waffle, I may have wandered off trend but hope it reads okay.

Stay safe, be kind to each other, we all have flaws, no ones perfect.

If duelling was still legal, there would be a lot less offended people around.

The tweets are terrible and he deserves the negative attention that it has brought onto him. With that being said it was 8 years ago and the punishment does seem to be severe.

I also have no time for his statement because he has to come out and apology whether he means it or not.

Your point on his apology is a fair one, Josh. Difficult as it is to determine his level of contrition, if there is any doubt over his level of remorse and if there is even a suggestion he may still hold these views, then I believe he should never play professional sport again, not just for England

Steve, the tweets were wrong - but by your approach, what job would you allow him to do? Should those with a hint of racism be restricted to cleaning toilets, or would you have a permanently unemployed underclass of people who are beyond being allowed to work?

The media, as said by 4everabaggie, are often at fault, the trouble makers in blowing up a situation that was small and they made big to sell papers, Yugoslavia being one that resulted in many lives lost. Are they bought to count with their leftish or far right remarks - no.

Still going back to Ollie, though its not right to make discriminatory remarks, it ain't as bad as the media making false statements which only the rich can afford to take to Court and resolve.

And as someone has said, we have all at some thought or said something about people, politicians, neighbours, but doesn't mean we should be punished unless it harmed someone.

Haven't read what it was that Robinson wrote, and I'm past caring because he's apologised publicly. He must feel very distressed now, and that's punishment enough for past (apparently) nasty statements.
But I'd rather live in a world where people can write really offensive comments, as Celebrities, Politicians, etc get every day than a world where Snowflakes/Wokes (ie students with f*** all else to do but impress their friends) now rule the roost. If people can't accept 'offensive' comments what will they do when someone physically beats them up?

Some bastard* called me 'old' today and not one Woke was around to help me from feeling 'offended'. I haven't stopped crying, but at least I'm still alive.

(* apologies to those without married parents.)
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with

I do appreciate what you're saying, Vic, and I'm not suggesting that cleaning the bogs would be his future career. However, the ECB has made a huge thing about its drive for equality, not just regarding ethnicity (see the efforts to improve the number of players of Asian background available for England) but also its promotion of the women's game, and Robinson's comments were both racist and misogynistic. If the ECB is serious in these ambitions, then to have a player holding such views and representing the Board at the highest level by playing for his country would be the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. I can imagine the accusations of hypocrisy - "you take action against discrimination and odious views, except when it affects the team".

As I said, I'm not supportive of the ban on Robinson because I feel - or hope - that these have been the words of a drunken and stupid youth, albeit an 18 year old one. But, if he stills holds these views, then I don't see how there can be a place for him in the Test team. Can you imagine the next time the team gets together, sharing a dressing room with Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali and them knowing this guy holds racist views. I'm happy to take at face value his apology and remorse...his future actions and words will determine how genuine they are.

I agree with much that has been said, but I would forgive and let live if that person is contrite and their would be no harm to another person. I'm sure our Vicar would agree.

Just to play devils advocate, the question is, do the white male community have the authority to suggest he is forgiven? It was not their group Robinson was insulting with his tweets.

The ever increasing problem is that it is becoming more and more a fact that no-one is allowed to express an opinion anymore unless you are on the side of the woke lefties.

I am totally sickened by the way this Country is developing and has developed over the last few years. It won't be long before the thought police are amongst us. Unless you are left wing, black and gay you are deemed to be a 'wrong thinker' and therefore of little importance and to be shouted down at every opportunity..
I have no problem with people whose sexuality or colour is different to mine, I just don't want it thrust down my throat at every opportunity.

I see that students at an Oxford College have now decided that they will no longer allow a portrait of the Queen to remain in their common room as they  believe that she was instrumental in causing problems in our former Colonies.
For God's sake (sorry BV), the straight white male has every right to live unfettered in this Country. After all, he is probably making the largest contribution to the Country's taxes.

Sorry for the rant but, I really have had enough!!!
