I don’t think Irvine was given enough time and is shouldering the blame for the mistakes of others. Let’s not forget approximately a dozen players left and the same number came in over the summer so is 19 games enough to judge him on? I was surprised he was appointed but wanted to give him a chance.
JP needs to take his share of the blame for his recent mishandling of the club, he sacks Clarke with no replacement ready and then appoints a man who cannot speak the language. He said he’d learnt from previous mistakes but in the summer he goes for cheap options in replacing our full backs by bringing in players who have never played in this country, it would have been better to stretch the purse strings and go for more experience i.e. Bardsley & Cresswell The coaching staff have come in for stick from a minority who now feel their wolves connections make them unfit to work for us, even though they were good enough under Hodgson & Clarke when we managed to finish in our highest position in over 30 years. I don’t care about the wolves all I want is the Albion to be successful, and any way villa will always be our main rival. The people who recruit the players Richard Garlick, Terry Burton and Mervyn Day have clearly made some poor choices, but seem to have come out of this with no blame attached. The players should take most of the blame as they are the ones who I have seen making numerous individual errors. Supporters moaned when Valero and Brown were not given a go, and yet nothing improved when they were in the team. Those fans that did not want Irvine appointed are also to blame, as they could not wait to begin the campaign to remove him (one rang WM to say he wish we had lost against Villa so we could have sacked him) We’ve been in relegation battles before and we all need to support the team. We have one of the lowest budget’s in the Premier league so it is always going to be difficult to compete each week. Now JP must decide who to appoint, and I hope it is neither Pulis or Sherwood. Pulis is another Colin and Sherwood had his chance to join and blew it by wanting to much money. Let’s hope it’s a quick appointment and that JP releases some cash in the January sales.

It's been mentioned several times about the brand of football TP got Palace out of trouble with last year, but there are people who just won't take it in - they're so stuck with the 'Stoke Pulis' that they can't see, or admit, the fact that PALACE PLAYED LOVELY FOOTBALL UNDER HIM LAST YEAR!!!!
We haven't got the players to play hooooofball, so if TP comes in do you think JP would sanction getting 4/5 new players in Jan to play this game for TP?? COME ON!!!!!

Pulis is to be appointed - BBC Website:
Tony Pulis is set to be appointed as West Brom head coach to succeed the sacked Alan Irvine. The 56-year-old former Stoke and Crystal Palace manager is likely to be confirmed in the position on Thursday. It is hoped he will be in the stands at Upton Park for West Brom's New Year's Day Premier League visit to West Ham. There are still some details to be decided, but the deal to make Pulis the club's fourth head coach in a year is expected to proceed without a problem. West Brom will retain their continental structure - in which the head coach works to technical director Terry Burton and sporting director Richard Garlick, who in turn report to chairman Jeremy Peace. But Pulis has been assured he will have full control of all first-team matters, including the buying and selling of players. The Welshman will meet with Peace for the first time on Thursday, and will bring Dave Kemp with him as his assistant, but decisions are still to be made on the rest of the coaching staff. Albion are 16th in the Premier League, a point above the relegation zone, following Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Stoke. Irvine was placed on gardening leave on Tuesday after winning just four of his 19 league games in charge.

My point of view is that this is a solid and sensible decision. I do not look at Pulis and Stoke but I look to Pulis and Crystal Palace. The football under that latter reign was very attractive and he pulled them from the Premiership abyss.
I do not want to go into the Championship but equally I am not wanting ugly thuggish football. If I get the recent Palace Pulis then I am a very happy man. At least this is a sound football decision and not another of JP's fantasy appointments.

Subject to contract issue (not of WBA making) it might take to beyond the Gateshead match.

It has to be Pulis. We're in crisis, he has a proven track record with perm teams in trouble, or, on a budget. Sherwood frightens me, had 6 months at a club with far better players and financial clout, yes he got the best out of them. But this is WBA and a relegation dogfight and I simply cannot see a candidate stronger than TP for this occasion. He's playing hard ball with JP as I suspected he would but if he's to get us out the mire he needs total control and not be another yes man for the chairman. This may be the sticking point and we could end up with a another surprise that sees us relegated. I don't want to see us back in the championship just look at the following clubs fulham portsmouth blackpool birmingham wigan right now. Does anyone really want that scenario? Can anyone see a better manager for this task who's available right now because I can't? Time will tell and I'm watching the news constantly to see the outcome with trepidation One thought for now. The FA in my opinion stuck the final knife into us when they pinched Hodgson and Ashworth there was a glimmer of hope back then and ultimately England will still fail no matter who gets handed the poison chalice that is England Manager/HC
