Romelu Lukaku, while playing for Inter Milan, was racially abused at the weekend by Cagliari fans. Lukaku becomes the fourth player in two years to be racially abused by the Cagliari fans.
Now the Curva Nord group of Inter Milan fans have written an open letter to Lukaku saying that the abuse was a sign of respect, not racism.

That open letter is one of the most breathtakingly glib, arrogant and un-self-aware statements I've ever seen. The sheer testicular fortitude it must take to make the argument "we don't have racism in Italy, like they do in all those countries where fans don't compare black people to monkeys. In this country, we respect your goalscoring so much that we like to suggest you're less evolved than us."
Seriously. Balls the size of melons and brains the size of grapes.

I think grapes is being too nice Ska’s. Bread crumbs for brains is more apt in my opinion.
Seeing Cagliari racially abuse 4 players in 2 years, you have to wonder how their only black player, João Pedro, feels about it. If it happens once it could be a one-off, if it happens a second time there’s a problem and if it happens another two times on top of that then it’s a massive problem and the state of mind being that it isn’t racist, it’s respect and trying to put a player off will only make things worse.
I was going to create an article but it’s best that I comment it on here considering it’s related to racism.
In Germany there’s a player called Bakery Jatta. He plays for Hamburger SV and he’s from The Gambia. He left his home and went through Europe and ended up at Hamburg. He never played for a club in his home country and HSV noticed him playing local football and signed him up. Now he’s 21 and is in the first team.
About a month ago the German tabloid Bild (like our The Sun newspaper) published an article which said that Bakery Jatta isn’t who he says he is, that he’s actually Bakery Daffeh, he’s 23 not 21, he played for The Gambia’s youth teams and played in a couple of other African countries. They also said that they have 2 of Daffeh’s previous Head Coaches who confirmed Daffeh is Jatta. After the article was posted the Hamburg police opened an investigation and the DFB opened an investigation. Three clubs, Nürnberg, Bochum and Karlushe all put in appeals against their defeats against HSV this season because Jatta played in each match. The AfD political party have used the report in their anti-immigration propaganda to try to get more votes in the Saxony and Brandenburg states, 15,000 Karlsruhe fans booed every touch of his and normal people on the internet have trashed him and his name ever since the article came out.
The club and his teammates have stuck by him and continued to play him. Last week Jatta’s lawyer entered Jatta’s birth certificate into the record which had been obtained from The Gambia’s records. On Monday the police and DFB have ended their investigations. On Sunday he scored in HSV’s 3-0 win against Hannover and immediately ran over to the Head Coach Dieter Hecking and hugged him and the rest of the players and staff surrounded them in a big group hug. Jatta was substituted later in the match and went off the pitch on the opposite side of the pitch and walked around the outside and was greeted with a standing ovation by the HSV fans and the ultras sung his name and even celebrated his goal like it’s the Bundesliga winning goal.

this is a recurring theme
and it`s time the powers that be finally took a stand
stop talking about sanctions
simple.....ban the clubs involved
our leagues have all but eradicated it

As one who was there, when our Three Degrees were playing for us 40 years ago, I can hand on heart say that it never occurred to me to think we had three black guys playing for us, quite possibly because even back then black players were becoming quite common in our leagues.

Cagliari have been cleared of racist chanting towards Lukaku.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football...ssion=true
“The report admitted that chants, shouts and whistles were directed at Lukaku by Cagliari fans, but they were not enough in "size and perception" to bring about any form of punishment against the club and its supporters.”

What utter nonsense of a decision. But here's an idea ( way out from left field) . All "non-white players" ( forgive me for using this phrase ) should leave ALL the Italian leagues & play in a League where their talent would be appreciated ( irrespective of their colour, religion etc). I for one would welcome Big Rom back at the Shrine.

I had the same idea when the news first broke, but while I certainly wouldn't blame individual black players for deciding they wanted nothing to do with Italy (or Russia, Serbia, Croatia, etc), I can't help but feel that an organised collective boycott would be giving the racists exactly what they want, to the detriment of both football and society. I think it would have to be accompanied by a fans' boycott in solidarity; or, at the very least, fans travelling to these countries for internationals or Euro games making banners in the nature of our Odemwingie banner in 2010 to show their contempt.
