But really, some of the decisions by Moore were baffling...  NOT REALLY

Clean sheet at half time, then revert back to the dreaded 3 at the back which was absolute dross at the start of the season and concede 3. Okay, 2 were in extra time, but the problem of slow centre halfs being dragged into wide positions reared it's head again. I thought we had got past this nonsense.  SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN DO THEY

Second half there's no centre forward, nobody getting into the box and zero goal threat. Despite looking decent first half. I honestly thought the best we could hope for then was 0-0 and penalties. Insanely we managed to score one of the flukiest goals I've ever seen to take it to extra time... But what did Moore have in mind when he reverted to this at half time? How did he ever think this side could score?
EASY HE WAS HOPING FOR AN OWN GOAL

Subs baffling...
NORMAL SUBSTITUTIONS  FOR OUR MANAGEMENT

Rodriguez 45 mins... Dawson on and off for 45 mins... Neither looked injured, so what this a protection exercise?
WHY PLAY THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE

If so, what a complete waste of subs in a 120 minute game. To have an entire extra time with no subs available - especially when the team are a bunch of kids plus Tyrone Mears, who is almost 36 and barely kicked a ball is ridiculous. As soon as Kanu got injured it was over, and I can't help feeling the subs were pre decided.
WHEN WE HAVE A PLAN WE STICK TO IT WIN OR LOSE.

Good to see the kids getting a game though. Some looked useful, although the shape of the team was a mess.
SLING ALL THE KIDS ON - GO TO A 3 AT THE BACK - TAKE YOUR TOP SCORER OFF = WERE OUT
THE CROWD NUMBERS SHOWED EXACTLY WHAT THE FANS THINK

Great confidence booster for our next game, the perfect excuse to confirm our kids aren't good enough and they can now be dropped.

Said it before il say it again BD is a motivational character. big heart up and at em kick every ball arm round shoulder doors always open over the top and into battle not too mention honest hard working bloody lovely bloke. I think it’s naive to think he should have at this stage of his career with his background and experience as a coach the tactical savvy that most on here are debating.
Quite simply put he isn’t a mourinho guardiola klopp kinda guy so the frightening truth is if he loses the ability to motivate a team that begins to lose confidence then as Holmes would say the game is afoot and that my dear Watson’s means we’re fooked he will get sacked and the whole pathetic circus will carry on without him. My concern is with our 2nd in command Belgium World Cup assistant head coach where is he in all this does he talk tactics to BD? If he does then is BD listening and reacting. If we switched them around and made BD number 2 would we get a more tactical proactive approach? We will never know but I can see things are starting to come unglued a bit and several chances to catch up with the top two and progress in the cup have been squandered of course I will always keep the faith but my head has been here for over 40 years and I can only see a play off scrap at best ??

Was at the game last night. Again I have to agree with much of what you guys have said already.
Bartley and Mears are dreadful!
Three at the back just does not work!
The youngsters did ok.
Bond at least moves off his line to collect the ball, unlike our present keeper! I would give him a few games in the Championship.
The use of our substitutes was appalling! We ended up with 10 men and no strike force for most of extra time.
Their Number 10 I think, should have been red carded for the elbow on Field in the 1st half. How did the ref miss that?
Mr Bong was given a welcome by the few thousand fans who actually were there.
Oh well, on to the clay heads on Saturday! Come on you Baggies!

I’m not one for criticising team selection etc but with it being obvious from squad personnel in earlier rounds and the first tie at Brighton that the FA Cup wasn’t high on the priority list, why didn’t Moore just go for it last night when making substitutions rather than bringing on and swapping centre half’s?
I wouldn’t say the 3-4-1-2 we had in the 2nd half was ‘going for it’.
Would’ve been much better to have had a go at them if the cup isn’t priority. May have ended in disappointment (as it did anyway) but would’ve been much more exciting to watch and I think Brighton were there for the taking.

My issue with DM is that he doesn't appear to be learning from his mistakes. Tried and failed formation used again last night, appalling use of subs, appalling tactics which handed the game to a Brighton side that were there for the taking.
Some of the senior players were dire, but on a positive note some of the youngsters showed great promise.
Too early for Rodgers to be in first team, but I thought field, Harper, Townsend, and tulloch did well.

On reflection I can't help but think Big Dave probably got home last night then celebrated.

For 2 Clubs to play their 2nd Teams in front of a PrimeTime TV audience, when there's a bloody good chance of getting to the 6th Round (and only a few Prem teams left), is a sign of the times. The F.A.Cup is less meaningful than the League Cup of a few years ago. When I was at School we used to quiz each other:  "Who won the Cup in 1926? Score? Opponents?" Now, I couldn't tell you who won it last Year or the Year before. Would we play our 'B' Team in the Final if there was a League match on the next Tuesday? All but 8,000 people felt the same about last night's game, and I half-wish there had been a good film on last night!

The bizarre substitutions made me think we really didn't want to progress. And instead of having an extra 1/2 hour, why didn't Big Dave just tell Bartley to pick the ball up in the box, and give Brighton a couple of penalties before the 90 mins? (Mind you, Hughton might have told Murray & Co to kick it into the stands, 'cos I think he told Andone to elbow Sam in the face to get sent off.)
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with

The FA CUP may not be of interest to the club - but it is to the FANS
With the clubs attitude we may as well take the Astle gates down and chuck them away. The way we treat the FAC now is a joke.
I know it's just me, but just IMO our performance was as though it was an inconvenience for, Players - Management - Tactics & Substitutes.
When we were in the PL we couldn't play our best players as we needed them for the relegation fight, well we got relegated. Now we need our best players for our promotion. The way football is run in today's world doesn't please me at all.
The idea of playing the kids is great, but you don't check em all in together and reverting to a back 3 don't start me - well GJ & DM should be fined and reimburse all the fans who turned up last night. Now that's how you reward people who take the p*** in my world.

Any thoughts on why, when Dawson only came on at half time, he was substituted at the start of extra time only to be replaced by another central defender? I understand why he went to a back three at half time (as awful as it was) in order to free the full backs up since we were ludicrously narrow in the first half. However, as Dawson wasn't injured, I'm struggling with the tactical mastermind thinking behind swapping one centre half for another, particularly when Dawson had only played 45 minutes Have I missed something?
