I have sympathy for the referee over the Rodriguez incident. He waved played on and acceded to the linesman's flag. If the authorities overturn the card then, presumably, the Wednesday player should be given a retrospective red for cheating in an ideal world. However, I suspect his card will be marked in the referee's mind. Refs are human. The player will not have to do much to get the yellow or red that he deserved when their paths cross again.
