Prediction League Tables The Final Week
#1

So here it is guys the final Prediction League is with us and done for.

I will be giving just a brief write up today as really the important final outcomes of course will be dealt with by Stato (Bomber) in the all familiar round up.

Such a low scoring this week, means a correct Gamball was always going to be important and so it proved with DD finishing of in style at the top with 11 points.

A drop in points to 2nd and runner up with just 5 points was Twerton, despite a correct result on the Gamball, followed in 3rd by WorldClass with 4 points.

in 5th we had Derby with just 2 points, also with two points were Matt & our long time leader Zinman.

BBB finished finished the season unable to add to his tally with a zero for the week

Three people then finished with -1 all the same scoring permutations and all with -1,
They were Joker, Sanjay & St Charles who has well and truly ran out of steam,

Bringing up the rear for the final time is Amelia who scored -2 and 11th position,

Finally a big thanks to all those who have stuck with us ALL SEASON it's been great having you along, and the banter has been awesome, next season there will be one or two tweaks to the scoring and maybe there is a World cup competition just around the corner ?

If you want to know who won the last World Cup 4 Years ago don't be afraid to ask Myself, Zinman or Stato(Bomber) will gladly let you know   Smartass

Once again thank you all and until next season here's Bomber with the final ups and downs so we can all see what Division we are playing in .................

Beefy   Thumb up

And so the season comes to a close, going into the final week no fewer than 8 had something to play for and every one of them could move up or down the table, so what happened you might ask, - well, absolutely nothing as far as position changing went, it stayed exactly how it started at kick off on Saturday lunchtime.

Congratulations to our league title winner of 2017/18 – DD, who after spending much of the season at the top came out the victor over 350 games, he started the weekend 2 points clear and finished it 11 clear after another Gamball 8 point haul, DD has much to owe to the game changing ball, for the points he has amassed.

Back in a valiant 2nd place was Zinman, who pushed our winner all the way and threatened to take the title himself for after leading for most of the last 1/3 of the season. Zin did have the consolation of lifting the cup so all was not lost in a decent season. While the Gamball helped DD take the title it, without doubt, stopped Zinman from winning it in a canter. No wonder it’s the Marmite of the prediction league.

BBB couldn’t muster up a final weekend challenge and fell away this week, although apparently he's back from holiday and found a scrap of paper with a Villa 1-0 win written on it  Tongue  but over the season which he started a week late he still managed to finish a creditable 3rd.

The mid to lower reaches were filled by Sanjay, St Charles, Worldclass, Derby & Matt, in that order. All of them had good weeks during the season but ultimately weren’t consistent enough throughout the season to sustain a push for the higher places in the league.

Down to the bottom of the table and while its good fortune for Amelia, it’s equally bad luck for Joker. The pair finished locked together on 121 points, and while Amelia was saved from the drop by virtue of gaining more correct results and more correct scores than Joker, he can consider himself unlucky that he predicted in 80 less games after joining late, but the rule has always been there that CR & CS would be treated like goal difference to decide a position  Thumb down .

Joining Joker in the Championship next year is Twerton who props up the final table but can take solace in the fact that he finally managed to crack the 100 point mark.

Bomber

So we entered the final week with expectations high, players jostling for positions and hopes of finishing the season with a bang. Could anyone topple the mighty beast at the top? Could a late charge cause promotion turmoil? Would weeks of studying form finally lead to a record points haul? Could Zinman come up with any more stupid questions?

No.

The final week of the Championship resulted in the wettest of damp "squids" (thanks for that quote Beefy). Only one correct score, one positive gamball score and nobody with more than four correct result predictions. And if City hadn't scored their last minute winner we would have been looking at the worst scoring week of the season. If ever a week summed up the lack of quality in the lower league, this was it.  Whistle

So the final week's table is headed by Bomber thanks to being the only person who could bring himself to actually want Villa to win a game - shame on him. The pressure of running this competition while trying to cope with Beefy's outrageous slurs had obviously got to him over the last few weeks but the prospect of a Beef free summer gave him the chance to show his true form to mount a late promotion bid. Unfortunately his massive 8 point score is unlikely to be enough. Second place is shared by Quantum and Snooty who scored double the points of Baggieone in 4th place - he at least had the excuse of concentrating on his cup final and did get the only correct score prediction.

So in our final week, the minusmen outnumbered the rest. 4eva at least improved on last week's performance with just minus 1, Vic scored points with his 5-5 prediction but still stayed in negative territory and Stairs ended with a score of -4 which seems to sum up his season.

Just being kept off the bottom of this week's table due to the generosity of the scorer is Salop, leaving Beefy to end the season on a low - both Salop and Beefy were saved from a "maximum" by that late City goal but for some reason I'm quite glad that they were saved that utter embarrassment.   Wink

So that's it, the season's over and I can get my Sunday evenings back. If anyone has bothered reading all this drivel through the season, thank you but you really should try to get out more.

Zin

Ban the Gam!

Much like the Premiership, the Championship went out like a crisp lettuce or a damp squid as Beefy says, much like a dry blanket or as moist as a bone. Tongue  For all the possible promotion challenges that might have come – none did.  Doh

Congratulations to Beefy who ran out a convincing champion in the end winning the league in a canter really, by 22 points. For all the insults and name calling we trade, I couldn’t be happier for him and wish him all the best for next season as he ventures upwards into the Premiership  Whistle .

Snooty joins him on that same journey and comfortably as it turned out, though he may have had an uncomfortable Saturday night as it looked like he may come under pressure for that 2nd spot, but a solid Sunday tightened his grip on the place that guaranteed promotion.

BaggieOne had to settle for 3rd, although he did look at one point to be closing in on Snooty, namely after Saturdays games but a lost Bonus Ball meant the challenge fizzled out and he finished the weekend a point further back than he had started it.

4th placed 4eva was always an unlikely contender to gate crash the promotion party and so it turned out, losing further ground in the final week to finish way off the pace after looking the one to beat in mid season.

Bomber passing 200 points in 5th finished the season much like 4eva with a run of low scores while others below them only a few weeks began to string a run of consistent scores together to not only catch them, but ultimately leave them in their wake.

Salop, Stairs, Quantum & Vicar filled 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th respectively finishing the season off in much the same way as they had performed for the rest of the season, good weeks mixed with bad weeks, but sadly more of the later which would explain their positions and points

Bomber

Thanks for all the positive comments over the season, and if it's given you some laughs, enjoyment and fun over an otherwise disastrous season then all the hard work's been worth it - if it hasn't, then it wasn't  Tongue

You will never make a Premiership footballer talking like that Stairs!! Of course you were good enough, it was bad management and bad formation decisions that did for us both, absolutely nothing to do with our abilities. We deserve to be in the top league, where we would walk away with the title, cause we are that good, best shut up now before I get transferred to the Stoke board. Big Grin Big Grin

Well done everyone and thanks again to the people doing all the work.

Would anyone mind if I brought up my comments from earlier in the season ?

Like back in September when I was near the bottom when I said ....

I'm always a slow starter but I always recover ? You have been warned..

There are fair few more Whistle
