Tony Pulis sacked

In fifteen years in and out of this league, only one man has steered us to safety for three consecutive seasons, and with room to spare on each occasion. It's no mean feat, and he deserves praise and recognition for it, irrespective of the poor entertainment value. But this year was a year too far, and I only hope we can properly move on now and put the days of stale negative football behind us.

All due respect to SGM, but he's not the man we need, and I do hope the board recognise that.

I will thank him for his first half season with us BUT I will not thank him beyond that. A stubborn fool who ground the fans down with his horrible brand of what he calls football. I call it absolute soul destroying dross. Playing players out of position, signings were usually defenders or CDMs. Had fast attacking wingers and chose to leave them out.

To succeed you need pace and wide players or creative midfielders. When we had them we didn’t see them.

If we at least have a go at attacking and playing football I can’t moan BUT GOOD RIDDANCE and begrudgingly good luck in the future.

If we accept that TP was dismissed for two reasons: the appalling style of football and the shocking run of results (I feel the two are connected), then I hope the new manager is appointed to address both of these and not just to stay in the PL. How we play is clearly incredibly important to the supporters. On that basis, please let's not have either of the O'Neills or Allardyce, all of whom play football to make your eyes bleed. I don't profess to have THE name but I'd be happy see McInnes as manager. Living in Scotland I've seen what he's done in managing a provincial football club in a league distorted by currently one and historically two teams huge teams. He's young, a Baggie and his team endeavours to score goals. I know he got a bit burnt at Bristol City but most managers have one failure on their CV. So, c'mon Derek, it's far warmer down in the Midlands than it is in NE Scotland.

Chuffed that he's gone.

I personally thought he had some undue stick at times during his tenure, but he had clearly lost his way this season. While his style of play was extremely poor, our recent form was nailed on for relegation and I believe this is the primary reason why he was relieved of his duties.

Just hope the board get the right man in, whoever that may be. That said, I can't see anyone being any worse at this moment in time. The way we have been playing under TP, I was struggling to see where the next point was coming from.

Hopefully we can employ someone who is bold, brave and gets us playing some exciting football again. On paper, the players are there to do it. I just hope we could mold them into a side, rather than a bunch of individuals.

Well, I said following criticism I received I wouldn’t comment again on the Pulis issue until the anti-football dinosaur had gone and great news, today the dinosaur has become extinct.

It is well known I have campaigned against his appointment from the moment his name was first muted. The Pulis effect has turned us into another ‘Stoke City’ of old, disliked by all and divided the club and its fans in exactly the same way as Stoke and that division will take some removing. We must unite and support whoever is appointed (Koeman or an Shakespeare/Appy combination for me) in the huge task of avoiding the drop which is even more likely now than ever it was under Irvine.

Olive branch to all even the pro-Pulis supporters!

As an outsider who has always liked West Brom's traditional on-field approach, Tony Pulis was never the right manager for you.

He isn't a bad manager. I don't think you'd have finished much below halfway in the table with him. But in the end your identity and how you feel matter.

You need to be West Brom, or you're nothing. Having a touch of style doesn't mean you have to give up winning. Barcelona seem to combine the two.

well Its done now and I believe its the right decision we are plummeting to relegation and seemingly the easiest team in the division to take points off by any other team be they newly promoted or top 6 and anyone in between. However, no disrespect but, Gary Megson is most definitely not the answer. he may have brought us out of the championship some 15 years ago but he never had the pedigree to keep us in the prem then and certainly has no experience in the prem for the last 15 years. We need someone with pedigree and experience and all I can think of are the managers who've already had the sack for lack of results and seemingly unable to keep the likes of west ham everton etc off or near the bottom. This is going to be one crucial massive decision and the powers at the club cannot eff this one up Undecided

I am pleased that fans are giving Pulis credit for what he has achieved at the club. It is becoming increasingly difficult for managers outside the top clubs to last more than a year at their clubs.
I have admired Pulis' ability for a while but the dire football is only tolerable if he gets results; the club has shown patience but this day had to come.
I hope the new man can give us the bounce to get us out of the mire and I hope Pulis does not go to a club that leapfrogs us and pushes us down.
I think we have dodged a bullet with Coleman going to Sunderland. I agree that Koeman is one of the better options. Whether he comes or not, is arguable.  Whoever comes, I hope they have some experience of Premier League or higher league football behind them. With several crucial fixtures coming up I hope our board has done some preparation and that we do not have to wait as long as Everton have, for a replacement.
