Blind Dave's Story becomes a movie (update)
#1
More details have been released on the movie about our very own "Blind Dave", a short film follows the life of Dave from him loosing his sight to receiving the Key to the Hawthorns. There is also a trailer on the site;

Makes you proud to have Dave in an Albion shirt. What a fantastic bloke!
I seriously can't believe how twats like Stewart, Jagger, Elton John, Lenny Henry and a host of other useless cretins can get a knighthood at the expense of people like Dave Heeley. Whatever is the Honours System about!?
I've written to my MP about honouring Blind Dave; and he went through the motions of passing on my comments, only to get a standard response from some Lord, simply stating the obvious: that all nominees were considered, and the ultimate decision was taken by HRH David Cameron (at the time). I can't believe that Tom Watson hasn't applied pressure, or did Cameron get his own back to spite him.
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with

Maybe we should create a UK Gov Petition to have him recognised (https://petition.parliament.uk/)

This could be promoted on here, twitter etc and see if football fans and others will support it. Would need someone more eloquent than me to do it - but I'd certainly sign it and promote it through my twitter etc.

If you seriously want to follow the process I can send you the forms. If i remember correctly they go to the Cabinet Office with all of the support you can get. It does take a bit of work but it is easily doable. You do not nominate for a specific honour, if granted the level is chosen by them, usually an M.B.E./O.B.E. for someone like Dave. The one thing is, if someone was to be going to do it, it could not be on here as it has to be on the QT. There is guidance on the gov.uk website.

You could not do it that way Stairs as the petition has to be something which can be debated in Parliament and they would not consider something like this. All nominees on the shortlist also have to be vetted, to ensure they are of "good character". This is particularly relevant of late, with the number of "personalities who have had theirs revoked Smile

im pretty sure to receive an Honour
you have to be
somewhere in London
a person that no one has ever heard of

but seriously this guy needs a bloody knighthood at the least
to say he is an inspiration is an understatement

the guy is an outstanding individual
but an individual that has inspired so many

give this guy the respect he deserves

What a wonderful, humble chap Blind Dave is. I met him by West Brom college when the Olympic torch was in town 5 years ago. He wasn't picked to carry the torch through West Bromwich - God knows why! He did carry the torch through Stoke of all places. He said he had his Baggies shirt on under his London 2012 shirt! What a legend!

On the film clip it shows a bag with the new WBA club crest on. This is incorrect! In those days the club emblem was the Hawthorn branch with a throstle on and no writing! Come on film makers - get your facts and continuity correct please. Don't do Dave a disservice by choosing cheap options!

The bloke has a great sense of humour too. Said to him in the pub one night I had bought my blind mate a cheesegrater for his birthday. He said it was the most violent book he had ever read. Dave nearly choked on his beer lol. DD Thumb up Thumb up

And here is the production companies reply:

Many thanks for getting in touch with us over the trailer for 7 Days and for pointing out the error. Due to the fact that we are working to a limited budget, it can sometimes mean it’s not always possible to get the historical details perfect in a scene.

But it’s always good to have any potential issues highlighted (as you point out, fans can get very picky over details such as incorrect logos) – and in this case we’ve been able to “paint out” the offending Albion logo and replace it with a more correct version for the period.

So, once again, a huge thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Salop, well done you and well done to the film producers for taking the time to correct the factual error and to reply, although the bit about fans being picky over logos etc did seem a little condescending ......

But once again well done both .........
