What about that crowd, under 17000? I know it was only Bournemouth and a cold tuesday night, the Grunters are now getting bigger gatesAngry
Was thinking about going on satdi, they can forget it, I'm not wasting £30 quid on that pile of rubbish, feel sorry for MS & Consilio having to watch that week in, week out.

There's more than just MadSteve and Consilio watching every week, especially now our away games seem to always be streamed

MS doesnt live in Sheffield, he has to travel to every game, home or away, theres costs for fuel, food and drinks and for away tickets.
Football is very addictive though, as is supporting a team.
They both must spend alot following the Owls, and then have to watch that product out on the pitch.
How much did u spend tonight Thurnscoe, if u dont mind me asking?

Well I am heartbroken that I missed that one!!!! We really have completely screwed up such a promising start to the season and the longer this continues I am coming to the same conclusion as others that we need a manager with more tactical awareness and flexibility to get the best out of the squad. The squad we have is probably the strongest we have had for the best part of 10 years but unless it is used properly we will continue to fail!!

A bunch of the teams below us won again tonight and whereas I have always thought there were quite a few worse teams than us in this division I am struggling to see who currently bar Blackpool fits into that category now!! A number of teams have changed managers and seen an improvement in their results, I imagine some of these will continue to improve as well. As MS will tell us, there is often an initial upturn with results when a new manager comes in, hopefully the likes of Brum and Noblot revert back to their poor form soon!!!

The Slide Continues

This game went pretty much as everyone expected except perhaps we didn't suffer an embarrassing score line. Bournemouth were at least a decent team although man for man, no better than ours. They are just better organised, have better tactics and knew how to handle us. Little surprise as Bournemouth employ six full time data analysts so they know every detail about every Wednesday player from every match over the last two seasons. Wednesday don't use data analysts.

The atmosphere was flat with only 16000 bothering to see if we could finally score. In fairness, we did reasonably well in the first half. Drenthe & Maghoma each had two good efforts on goal and had someone followed in Maghoma's shot, there was a tap in from the keeper's fumble. At the back, Westwood also fumbled a shot but they failed to capitalise also.

We started with Drenthe alongside Nuhui up front but eventually moved Maguire forward & Drenthe back to the wing.

We need to use our energy better. Nuhui makes 50 yard lung busting runs chasing defenders then has no energy left to get in the box when we need him.

Defensively, Palmer looked off his game & Lees was unusually sub par. Lee & Coke were ineffectual in midfield and it was only the odd spark from Drenthe that threatened a goal.

We were already well on the back foot when the red card sealed our defeat. Although the decision was incredibly harsh as Drenthe got the ball, it would be misleading to say it cost us the match because it was just a question of when Bournemouth scored.

They tactically outwitted us from minute one. They used their full backs as wing backs then tucked their wide players inside which left our defenders unsure of who to mark. It also meant that our forwards wasted energy chasing the ball until they slipped it wide each time they built from the back. Eddie Howe has turned average players into a promotion chasing team by clever use of tactics - a bit like Wilkinson did for us in the 80s.

All spirit drained out of us with the red card & the goal that swiftly followed. We didn't have an attempt of note in the second half except when Lees missed from a free header six yards out with the score still at 0-0 from a brilliant Drenthe corner. After that, it was depressing.

May came on at 0-1 but rarely got the ball in dangerous positions. Dielna replace Lee & Helan was pushed forward which actually made him less effective.

Westwood - 6 - one brilliant save, one bad fumble
Palmer - 4 - terrible control, struggled
Lees - 5 - worst game for us so far
Loovens - 6 - baled us out more than once
Helan - 7 - our best player
Maguire - 5 - worked hard, but poor choices
Lee - 4 - little influence
Coke - 4 - hardly noticed him
Maghoma - 5 - two good shots but little else
Drenthe - 6 - main attacking threat
Nuhui - 5 - ran like a headless chicken
....................................................................
May - 5
Dielna - 5

I fear that SG has run out of ideas. Players that were playing well a year ago are now far worse. Tactically, teams are getting the better of us & we don't know how to respond. I fear that SG could be sacked soon or that we slide into the bottom six.

Fulham, Bolton & Birmingham have all picked up after changing their manager & we stand five points above the relegation line. We don't look like we can score, let alone win.

Rotherham could be ideal or terrible opponents to have next. On one hand, they are a poor side that we should beat but on the other hand, they will be fired up and we are incredibly fragile so if we go behind, there is little way back.

Going to matches has become increasingly depressing this season and I really couldn't be bothered last night so I can understand why crowds are falling. This will hit our bottom line & make new signings less likely and sales more likely.

We need a kick start & it won't be long before the cries for SG's head increase from the current small minority unless things change quickly & dramatically.

Last night, about £15 because I went by myself Doh Not taking into account ST cost
Saturday will be about £50 because I'll have to get train back to Sheffield (£4), tram (£4), Food and drink before (£20) and after (£15ish)

I've had to cut down on away games because I'm living out of my overdraft atm. My next one will probably be Fulham, train to donny (£5/6 return), train to london (£35), travel in London (£ Huh ), Food & Drink (£40 probably more), ticket (£20??)
so yeah, it does add up to quite a bit

The point that MS just made that low attendances like last night's will make it harder to sign players and move forward is in effect what I've been saying for bloody years on here and getting nowhere with it. If the team is playing poor unattractive football, worse still losing or at best scraping 0-0 or 1-1 draws, why should people be expected to come and watch them, especially on a cold night as I understand it was yesterday? So, the downhill momentum grows.

At some point, in any business you have to invest to expect rewards. We haven't. We have a second string manager, who many of us didn't want to see appointed. Not really much in the way of signings and because of the poor manager's lack of judgement, bringing in sub par loan signings at that: Taylor Fletcher and Hope for example.

The only way now to break out of this will be to sack SG, try and lure a better manager with fresh ideas and make some decent signings. Then, we might start winning and the crowds might see the point in coming out. But, it won't happen because MM won't open up his wallet.

Now, come on lads, I'm waiting for the "he doesn't know how to run a business. Doesn't understand the modern game" racket. Doh Doh

So looking at £140 ish or a day out!

At Christmas time! Feck me, I must be stupid or sumat!

We had no idea at all in the last third last night, Drenthe was the only player we had in midfield that looked for a forward pass. It was like having Drenthe plus three Darren Potters in midfield. Big Grin

Well, the crowd should be decent on satdi, the Millers are bringing 4,500 with them.
