Mulumbu, McAuley and Foster will be big misses if they are ruled out of next week's match. Fortunately we now have good squad strength which should be able to cover for it.
Can't say I agree Josh, Myhill is great cover for Foster but if Lescott is still not fit Dawson is not good enough nor is Yacob or Baird to cover for Mulumbu

....obviously any replacement wouldn't be QUITE the same quality as the first choice - that's why the other guy is first choice! However I agree with Josh in that our replacements this year seem to be of a different class to those we've had before, and can HOPEFULLY step up without too much being lost  Confused
On the whole the squad is stronger but them 3 mentioned aren't premier leagues players
How can you class Myhill as a PL player but not Yacob?
He done a decent job last season I wouldn't feel to anxious should Foster miss 3-4 weeks, but would I want Yacob in the side for that long, no chance! Though he's said a few things in the paper hopefully he's found something that was missing all last season

Wouldn't have liked to have been you when Yacob was playing week in week out under Clarke and was inches away from getting player of the season then Rolleyes

Are you serious? you do realise that was 2 seasons ago Time for me to leave this debate I reckon!! I can't be involved in a debate as to whether a player is good enough when everyone seems to be judging Yacob on his first season and completely blanking out last season Undecided

He has proven himself to be a PL player in the past though, Van Persie had a bad season last year does that mean you wouldn't want him in our team? Class is permanent and Yacob is a quality player.

I really hope he proves me wrong, just my feeling though :-)

I find it stunning that professional footballers moved from one club to another are typical said to be unfit and need time. Time for gelling into a system yes, but not physical fitness, surely!

Re Yacob, we kept him and so AI must feel he plays a role. Let's see what happens. Different coach, different reaction maybe?

Is it just coincidence that so many of our players are getting injuries, or could it have something to do with our pre season? Can't imagine many other clubs have the amount of injuries we do. Bad luck or is there something in it?

....didn't this happen last year as well, us having loads of early season injuries?
If so - no coincidence.......take a look, the Football Department! Whistle

I think we've just got to face the fact that virtually all PL footballers these days are a bunch of tarts. Oh for a Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter, Vinne Jones or a Tommy Smith - hated them all but at least they had 'bottle' and character! Dodgy

The thing is with injuries is that we all tend to assume our opponents are injury free and have a full squad of fit players to choose from, which of course is rarely true!

The fact is that if we can only win matches with every first Team player being available, then I am afraid we are doomed!

Gardner will fill into the centre nicely alongside Yacob if required. Myhill is more than adequate to do a good job BUT Dawson is a worry. I'd put Wisdom in with Olsson and Gamboa at RB.

Is Varela fit yet??
