Now all the moaners can go and give their heads a wobble. First 10 games unbeaten and top of the league. Val take a bow. Best performance with a zero spend we have had for a long time.

For anyone still anagramming, I'll wait another twenty-four hours before supplying the answers. Clues below:

9. Sunderland striker who played three games on loan for Albion in 1996, which was three too many. Ended his career at QPR.
14. QPR stalwart of the 1950s, played four games for Albion. Surname is an occupation, and the anagram is partly a clue to that occupation.
23. Albion player of the early 1930s who transferred to QPR. Surname might put you in mind of a celebrated poet and novelist of the late British Empire.
27. Defender signed by Tony Mowbray, spent eight games on loan with Cardiff in 2013.
34. Welsh forward who began his career with Cardiff and played for Albion 1952-1955. Surname highly indicative of national origin.
37. Full-back, we sold him to the Wofflers when they were desperate, they never let us forget. Moved to Cardiff around the Millennium.
38. Forward and local lad, came through our youth system, spent a year at Cardiff, but mainly associated with Plymouth and Shrewsbury.
40. Welsh international of the 1930s. With his surname, he might have been more at home at Bristol City.
42. Great Albion inside-left of the 1950s. Played in the 1954 FA Cup final.
45. Midfielder signed by Gary Megson and only used intermittently by Bryan Robson. Not from a traditional footballing continent (Europe, S. America or Africa).
46. Albion youth of the 1970s, only had a short senior career with us. Shares a surname with one of the all-time great Welsh strikers.
49. Albion striker of the mid-1980s, his Cardiff spell came ten years later. Still does some punditry and commentary on WM.
