I think he should stay in League 1. Just like Gary Roberts, he's a star in that league so why bother being a sub in the Championship.

I'll second that Wakey.
He was garbage in Larry the Leeds fan's last match as a manager for us at Watford and before. He then cried off injured/sulking for a few weeks when he should have been scoring goals to make us safe, then came back and scored a few when he was looking for a contract. I can understand Leeds fans getting wet between the legs about him but he didn't really impress or fool me with that end of season cameo. Something he's just repeated at Preston Both Ends.

Powell's proven he's good at getting the best out of inconsistent performers. If he managed it for Beckford he'd be our best goalscorer by some distance as the ones we have are either not good enough (NW/IM) or spend half their time injured (JV). If we can get the wages right for us it's a no brainer for me, although I suspect he'll sign for PNE when they go up.

It's a no brained for me too. He showed he can't score much in this division at Leicester and Bolton, hence he's at Preston.

Scanz might get jealous is Chris Powell starts hugging other players.

But he showed he CAN score in this division, moreso than our current strikers, when playing with us, so why judge him on what he's done elsewhere?
did we not try and sign him the last time he was here the stumbling block being his wage demands
i personally dont think we should be spending large amount of money on wages for a player who is coming to the twighlight of his career i'd rather we spent the effort on pushing some of the younger players onto the pitch. Harry Bunn was the surprise package of last season , he scored 9 goals from the wing but his natural position is striker, with Lolley coming on and Charles in the wings i dont see why he couldnt be pushed up as for our other strikers Wells has got 20 in 59 appearances not all of them starts, that a goal every 2.95 games, not a great return but considering how the team was playing for most of those games hardly surprising the same goes for vaughan. Vaughan has 28 in 73 appearances ( every 2.06 games) Beckford got 8 in 21 for us, thats a goal every 2.62 games. not much of a better ratio than wells and worse than vaughan he also got only 9 in 43 ( every 4.7 games) for leicester and 7 in 46 for Bolton ( every 6.57 games) even if you judge Beckford by his huddersfield record alone saying he can score in the championship more so that our current strikers would seem an inaccurate statement he also spent a decent amount of time in the physios room too

If he's prepared to come back and take 5/6/7/8 grand a week then yes maybe I'd gamble on him but anymore than that and he can go play for his mate Grayson who seems to be the only one who can get any kind of form out him.

I'd much rather us go for a younger lower league talent who may cost a abit but d could also make a fair profit on in 3/4 years depending on where we are at

Of any striker since Rhodes, Beckford is the one who when through on goal you'd back to score pretty much every time. If you say you fancy Wells, Vaughan or Miller more than than him you either don't watch them enough or are just trying to be awkward, none of them are anything like convincing when through on goal, in fact I'd say all 3 are pretty poor when through on goal. I'm not saying pay him silly wages, I'm not even sure he could demand silly wages anymore, but if we can get him on relatively cheap wages I'd be looking to do so as we certainly need a striker who can actually score goals now that we can create chances. |
