He hasn't had a fair chance yet imo.If Irvine treats all his players like this he won't last long at WBA.On another theme the constant vchoice of Brunt And Morrison in m.f is worry.

Ideye deserves a chance, every possibility I may be proven wrong but there must have been something there to justify the spend.

The man himself speaks out: http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/2014...50fa323ac9

West Brom's record signing Brown Ideye this afternoon pledged to silence his critics and ruled out a move away from The Hawthorns after a tough start to his Albion career.

The £10m summer recruit hit back at comments from fans on social media questioning the club's decision to smash their transfer record to sign him from Dynamo Kiev and insisted "I have never been a flop".

Ideye is yet to score in the Premier League and failed to even make the substitutes' bench for the recent games against Leicester and Newcastle after an ineffective Capital One Cup outing at Bournemouth.

"It's too early to start thinking about transfer or loan so I am here to give my all and to fight," said the 26-year-old Nigeria international.

"I am here to fight for my space or a role in the team.

"I don't think there is a problem with that.

"A lot of people are writing on my Instagram and Twitter page saying 'you're s***' or 'you're not worth the money'.

"You can't criticise me, I've not been playing!

"How can you criticise somebody who has not been playing?

"I have found it difficult but people can't criticise, pull me down or have a gun at my head for not playing.

"I don't think that is fair.

"It makes me stronger and makes me want to bounce back as quickly as possible.

"I know the money spent for me to be here but I'm not even talking about the money.

"I just want to show the world and everybody that I can do it.

"I have been doing it since the first club I played in Europe and I have never been a flop.

"You can ask all the clubs I have played at. I have always been one of the best in the club so I don't think I will have problems here."

Since moving from Nigeria to Europe in 2008, Ideye has scored regularly for Neuchâtel Xamax in Switzerland, Sochaux in France and Dynamo in Ukraine.

But he has struggled to make his mark in England so far with head coach Alan Irvine admitting he had never seen Ideye play live before his arrival.

"I'm not surprised about that," said Ideye. "He may not have seen me play live but other people that brought me here have.

"They know what I can do for them to spend such an amount on a player.

"To spend that you need to know what a player can do. I wouldn't go to a market and buy a laptop and not know anything about it.

"I'm low that things are going this way for me right now, but I don't see why people have to criticise somebody in this way.

"For me, I'm not worried about it as everyone has an opinion. I just have to prove my worth and I can't do that sat on the bench or not being in the squad."

I'm firmly of the view that he deserves a chance, and it's saft that people are slagging him off on social media, but sadly predictable. Some proper gorms out there with more broadband than sense.

The big problem with social media is that you don't know who is really doing the slagging.  I could easily join twitter now with a dingle name and slag the dingle players.  HMMM Wink

That's true, to be fair. Honestly though, I've seen enough garbage on these sites that nothing would surprise me.

Good to see Sylvestre Varela featuring in the training game against Leicester City. Hopefully, he will, when fully, fit provide the speed and width we are so sadly lacking BUT, will Irvine continue with his 'wingless wonders' ?

Why are we blowing so hot and cold about Irvine.

We lose a match against Newcastle with the players apparently giving a poor performance and, everyone (most anyway) are immediately on Irvine,s back.

Yet a handful of good results (Spurs and Leicester) and some bloggers are immediately more hopeful of a successful season.

Even in the good old days (except perhaps 1978/79) the Baggies always blew hot and cold whoever was Manager and however good the players seemed to be.
In fact I think that we rarely finished in the top half of the old Division 1.

We were a good Cup side, no more no less. But, sadly not even that now.

I suppose it's the expectations of being in 'the greed league' and the financial implications of failure and relegation which haunt us all.

Like many on here, I was very disappointed at Irvine's appointment but willing to give him a chance to show what he could do. It's beginning to seem that some of the comments made by Wednesday supporters are coming to fruition.

Unless Irvine starts to pick flair players soon and unless he relies less on the 'old boy network' (Dozza, Mozza, Bruntyetc.) I think we will sink slowly into the sunset and be in the bottom three by Xmas.

When will JP bite the bullet and seek out a replacement Coach?
How much rope do you think JP will give Irvine?
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.

God i hope so we need somebody to make and take chances.

He's scored this afternoon, so fingers crossed!

And so has Brown Ideye! Chelsea won't know what's hit them Laugh

Interesting quote in this article: http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/varela...77400.aspx

"Sometimes the group have to have a low-level session and sometimes it is a little bit higher and at no time now are the group getting smashed. He probably needs what the group got when they were getting smashed in pre-season..."

Getting smashed for fitness? Well, it worked for Paul Gascoigne! (Sort of...)

Is Irvine & Co meeting the Chairmans aspirations ?

Like many of you I wasn't exactly inspired with the appointment of AI but willing to give him a chance. He has blown hot, cold and mainly luke-warm infuriating us supporters with his negative line-ups and substitutions which sees us in the lower half of the table.

JP stated in a BBC Midlands Today interview a year or so ago that WBA was, in reality, a mid-table Championship club and as such, even sitting in the bottom half of the Premiership is more than meeting JP's expectations.

Are we punching above our weight; do we have delusions of grandeur; should we be satisfied with our lot?  Should we know our place and say "Gawd bless yow guv'nor"  and doff our caps if we ever meet Mr Peace in the street?
