Much as I admire what McLeish won for us, the longer he was there the worse we got, and he left us with a team going nowhere. Not all his fault as Scottish football on the whole was downsizing at that time so he could never have replaced Advocaat's players with their like. But I thought he gradually overloaded his teams with defensive-minded players who lacked panache and creativity (he brought in a few gems though), while simultaneously failing to build a non-porous defence. In a lot of ways I think his team was comparable with McCoist's in fact. And let's be honest, aside from his stint with Scotland his performance as manager (and more particularly the performances of his teams) since leaving us has been less than inspiring.

I feel for McCall who was one of my favourite 9-in-a-row players and who's shown he's up to demands of the job in a lot of ways. He's improved our play vastly in a short time, but losing the playoff final and losing it so heavily casts serious doubt on his ability to get the results we need.

New and baggage free sounds good to me too but it has to be the right type of personality to come in and deal with the scrutiny and the expectations without being someone who's already invested in it in some way (eg. a fan or ex-player). I also hope we're not being too narrow-minded as a club and only looking at British managers. I'm sure there are loads of continental ex-players with a ton of European experience who could be the right man for the job and who would be delighted to get a chance at a big club trying to build something for the future.

Not that he needed the team to finish second he failed on that aspect to from a leading position,end of the day he done slightly better with the shite McCoist and McDowall worked with.

Warburton has the vision to set a good youth system in place for us, I'm sure he set up the next Gen tournament, So from a progressive point of view i would be happy with him. Weir will only be backroom, and from all accounts they have a great working relationship, so i can't see the Rangers connection being an issue here.
