In an idle moment, just Wiki'd Laurie Cunningham (my all time favourite player!); in the article was this PFA Team of the Year 1978 - 79:

GK: Peter Shilton
DF: Viv Anderson DF: David O'Leary DF: David Watson DF: Derek Statham
MF: Liam Brady MF: Tony Currie MF: Osvaldo Ardiles
FW: Cyrille Regis FW: Kenny Dalglish FW: Laurie Cunningham

Yes kids - we were THAT good - 3 players in the team of the year!!! Cool

Subject of PFA, anyone think Berahino will get nominated for young player of the year? I'd be very happy for him.

....and Willie Johnston was keeping Laurie out of the Albion team until his World Cup misdemeanours!....
and Pop Robson was fast becoming the best player in the League a year or so later....
and Wile & Robbo AS A UNIT would have made the team over O'Leary/Watson....
and Bomber was 10 years ahead of his time.

Just reading about Bournemouth's rout of Fulham last night, and looked at the bottom of the Championship table - makes frightening reading with Bolton, Reading, Fulham, Wigan and Blackpool all in the bottom 8. Obviously these are teams that were all in the PL just a few years ago.
Coupled with the likes of Derby, Forest, Blackburn & Leeds who all have spent most/a lot of their recent history in the PL but are now really just 'ordinairy' Championship level clubs, it just makes you realise what a greasy pole relegation is at the moment and how hard it is to get back.
I would say that most of these are all similar sized clubs to us too. Confused

Fair play JP - keep waving that magic wand! Thumb up Thumb up Big Grin

Top of the championship is ridiculously tight.

Anyway, awful news http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/...um=twitter

Good to see the twat fans of the midlands teams have coordinated for this weekend. The whole region should be bombed.

Awful news mate.

No one should be attacked for a trip to support their team FFS.
After our trip to Villa Park, not sure we or AV can throw stones.

A hideous weekend for the Midlands all round  Sad
I can go a step higher than Aston Villa

What a great game of football last night (Real v Schalke). I watched as a neutral, but love the way RDM's got Schalke playing, and was cheering them on right to the end.
Couldn't you just slap Ronaldo, though!

Yes it was a great game to watch.
No I couldn't slap Ronaldo...he's bigger than me!
Maybe Clarkson could (allegedly) slap him for me?

HoHo.
Wouldn't mind throwing a seat at Clarkson, the big girl's blouse.

Berahino didn't make this England squad, hopefully he'll shine for the under 21s then play for Burundi and be their all time top scorer.
