So that's Simonsen, Foster, McCulloch, Mohsni and Streete all unavailable defensively for the Hibs game tomorrow night. New boy Kevin Mbabu is unlikely to feature I would think.

Robinson, MacGregor, Zaliukas, Wallace and Faure more likely to start? Or will Stevie Smith be shoehorned in there at left back with Wallace moved to centre back? Let's see how creatively Kenny McDowall can **** up our defensive selection.

There's always the Jon Daly option as well, remember. A Dundee Utd-supporting pal of mine said he was Utd's best defender the season before he joined us. Said it with a straight face too, the bugger!

Wallace, Zaliukas, McGregor, Faure sounds likely to me depending on Zal's fitness, although Foster might still play. There's always Halkett and Sinnamon. I'd be happy to see them get a look in.

Aye, I see Foster starting regardless - the wee trooper he is.

Sinnamon's been getting good reviews in the U20s, so there's no chance of him getting the nod, and if he does then McDowall has his ready-made excuse for any defeat. Rangers under McCoist /McDowall are toxic to young players.

Even so we'll still have Zaliukas providing the same core problem that McCulloch does - an inherent lack of pace.

Well you called it right on the back 5. Andy Murdoch's also in for Black and Boyd starts instead of Daly. I don't know what Clark has to do to get his turn in the team. He's the only one I could see posing a goal threat in this game.

The lack of any killer instinct in the box is going to kill you this season!!! 1-0 down after having all the best chances to score so far!!

Ffs, why take of Vuckic? Most likely to score or create.

Then, as soon as we take him off, 2-0 down.

Tactical genius.

SPFL2 (Championship) 13/02/2015 : Rangers 0-2 Hibernian

There was too much sideways and backward passing from Rangers in this game, which combined with long balls towards the Hibernian box, never really put Hibs under pressure. Once Hibs took the lead early in the first half with a counter-attacking goal, they sat on it, doubling their lead with another counter-attacking goal late in the second half.
Watching this game I had the feeling that it would be 'one of those', where no matter what our team did, the ball would not go in the net for us and the opposition would nick one ... well, they nicked two, to go second in the table.

Match Report : Rangers FC - Rangers 0-2 Hibernian

Attendance :  29,769 (SSN) - 953 Hibbies ... Happy ... again !!!

Manager's verdict : Rangers FC - We Didn’t Deserve To Lose

I think you're being a wee bit harsh, Larry. We were a million times better than last time we played them, and I can't remember the last time we at least made the keeper work as hard as we did. It was poor marking by McGregor that undid us this time along with our usual struggle to score, but we were making chances and putting shots in.

I have to give some credit to McDowall too. He's still not the guy to sort out all our problems but he's changed the style of play, shown that he's not afraid to change the personnel in the team (though starting with Boyd was a bit of a mystery to me) and if you ask me he's doing the right thing in praising his players even after that defeat. They need to build confidence somehow and if it's not coming from results it needs to come from elsewhere.

He's even got Hutton doing a lot more of what made him a good player. When McCoist inexplicably froze him out a couple of years ago he was dominating reserves matches, making runs straight through the middle of the park and laying things off for the strikers. When Ally finally did put him back in the first team he just sat in the middle of the park passing sideways. I worried he'd missed his chance to turn into a player but if McDowall sticks with him for now he can make good progress.

Stick on penalty right before their second by the way which the ref decided to ignore (go fig), and if we'd scored there and gone on to win it I don't think anyone could have said we didn't deserve it.

I should have made myself clearer, El Car :

When I said :
"I had the feeling that it would be 'one of those', where no matter what our team did, the ball would not go in the net for us" ...

... I was thinking of the many chances to score Rangers had, all of which were either saved, blocked, or narrowly missed.
To quote a recently departed Manager, 'I can't fault the effort' !

We really haven't had the rub of the green in front of goal lately, have we? We need not just one but two strikers on form and high on confidence. At the moment we have none although I think Daly looks most likely to hit the back of the net when he gets any sort of service. Maybe time to chuck McCulloch up front again?
