Tony Pulis' replacement
#11
Of those mentioned, Quique Sánchez Flores would be my favourite. Experienced, knows the league and did a really good job with Watford IMO. Can't see us prising him away though, sadly.

Of the British managers, the majority seem to be a bit of a 'punt' really with the exception of Allardyce, who I see as a bit too similar to Pulis, albeit not as negative. For that reason, I wouldn't want him. I feel we need fresh ideas.

Michael O'Neill did really well with Northern Ireland. However, from a club point of view, he's very much an unknown quantity. We have no idea how he can do with a more talented bunch of players. Maybe he will thrive or maybe become another Pulis.

McIness seems to be doing well at Aberdeen, but I'm not sure that proves much. A mate of mine is a Bristol City fan and his description puts me right off. I'd rather he went to prove himself somewhere else first.

Graham Potter has worked wonders with Östersunds FK and seems to promote the right brand of football. What I like about Potter's record in comparison to McIness is that he's won silverware and is doing well in Europe, not just a domestic league. Unfortunately, coming from such a different football climate would be a huge gamble.

There are numerous names I could throw in the pot, but I don't think we're a huge draw at the moment, unfortunately. Money of the Premier League talks, but I don't think it talks enough to attract the likes of Rodgers, Tedesco, Tuchel, Blanc et al.

Maybe from lower reaches of La Liga, Eastern Europe or South America then we could attract someone already employed. Matias Almeyda or Marcelo Gallardo could be outside shouts, who are both young and doing well well. But like Potter, doing well in South America represents a gamble, especially with language barriers.

I agree about Quique Flores being a very good option especially if he'd bring his favourite boy Jose Jurado with him. He has the ability to get a lot out of the players at his disposal and he also has the ability to adapt himself to the players. His Atletico Madrid and Getafe teams for example played very good football but then at Watford his team were a bit more direct whilst still having an attractiveness to them. He is a top coach.

A stumbling block though is that he said he has no intentions of leaving Espanyol in the lurch in the middle of the season. He said that when linked with West Ham. Maybe we could bring in someone like Allardyce or Pardew until the end of the season and then go for him in the summer when he is open to a move.

I think Graham Potter has the potential to be a top level coach in the future but I think he is better off staying with Östersunds for a couple more seasons. Win the league and get them into the Champions League before then coming to a good Premier League club.

6 words.....

He is out of our league.

He worked miracles with Mainz taking them to 9th, 5th, 13th, 13th and 7th place finishes which earned him a big move to Dortmund. He had a very good first season and got Dortmund back into the top 2 but an average second season followed where he didn't know his best starting 11 even if it hit him in the face with a frying pan. He was let go afterwards and replaced by Peter Bosz.

If we chuck a shit ton of money and Bratwurst's at him then maybe he could be enticed but he is holding out for a Champions League team.

Sacking Pulis, whilst the correct thing to do, has given us a headache, unless the board have secretly been negotiating.
Who to appoint in place of a guy who, tbh,  has done a pretty good job of steadying the Good Ship Albion for the last 2 years.

I need to get this out there from the off......Do Not Appoint Anyone Currently Managing in Scotland to Manage anywhere in England. Please STOP talking Mciness up as though he's some kind of messiah in waiting. The guy is useless. Add Pardew, Big Sam, Curbishly, Oneil (both of them), Shakespeare and the rest of the 'B' list clingons that earn a living by failing and generally being crap.

Foreign managers are a complete 'hit and miss'.  Hull and Watford got lucky whereas we ended up with an idiot called Pepe Mel.

Don't leave a lot,  does it?

For me, at this stage of the season we need a guy fully aware of what the prem is about, I.e Koeman.

Got a horrible feeling that we're gonna wish we had stuck and not twisted.

However, there is a chance that our board are only pretending to be rubbish (who on earth would allow Megson near a prem squad and not suffer?) and come up with a name to have us jumping for joy.
This is a 'last throw of the dice ' decision but I'm not holding my breath.

Reckon we could be fecked.  (Unless it's Koeman of course)

Merkel is a good shout. Solve the problem of dwindling attendance at the Hawthorns with her 'open door' policy. 25000 every week all getting in for free... Big Grin

Tidy, as someone who lives in Scotland and sees a lot of football up here, I understand your scepticism about the SPL. However I don't understand your comment in Derek McInnes that "the guy is useless".
