Scottish League Cup: Hibs v The Doonhamers, Tues 9 August, KO 7.45pm
#11
Not too fussed about the league cup,but by all accounts we should have been home and hosed 1st half.

The night underlines we need new signings, at least 2 and hopefully our new keeper in place. Young laidlaw made a real howler the night for their second.

Promotion is the only thing we should be interested in this season.

Spot on re these comments. The pivotal moment in this match was Fontaine's diabolical misplaced header from a foot off their goal line to make it 2-0 and game over! Doh I've scored goals like this with my face just to make sure the ball is directed in the pokey but Fontaine seems incapable of knowing where the target is located!!! I must say this match was effectively a bounce match tarted up as a cup tie IMO for most of this game TBF! Also noticeable the lack of any urgency re putting on subs etc - no coincidence! Our mid formation was wrong from the off and McGinn just looked 'out of sorts' while Bartley looked like he needs game time!! I'm relieved that we are out of this tourney (no distractions this season please) and Lenny will definitely field a much stronger Hibs side on Saturday for important league business, incl a replacement goalie

I agree we need at least another two additions to strengthen our player squad just a wee bit more! Thumb up Also I notice Lenny has loaned out another two Hibs players, Allan and Dunsmore, and expect some more transfer activity from him. I'm hoping Hendo returns but can only wait n see how it all unfolds.

Heard this a lot last night and to a point I agree. Sitters were missed but Queens didn't have a go till we scored and they had a good shout for a penalty at the end of the first half....so....

However this was not a development side or a second side but apart from a couple of injured players was a team that are hopefully going to get promotion. Apart from some great dead ball striking from Keatings and neat build up play we showed some diabolical defending and poor choice and quality in the final third.

When Queens started to have a go ( after we scored.....before that they were happy to sit back) we looked more unsure ( some bizarre incidents between Laidlaw and central defenders  Doh ) and because of the system we were playing with 3 up top we started to fail to track the runs of the Queens players into our box which paid them dividends for the first and third goals. Second was a goalkeeping error so was Oxle......Laidlaws fault. Wink

I thought he may have played the Birmingham midfield of Harris, Stanton, Martin and Carmichael which did well against the Blues, for this wee cup game. I know there has been speculation of Carmichael going to Queens but I thought last night as he was on the bench he must be staying......however when Cummings gets replaced by Forster ( yet another central defender  Doh ) when we are losing I am now not sure??? I also think he should have rested Holt and save the big man for the league campaign.

Most of these players will be in the starting line up on Saturday and fans will not have the fall back of.........its only the wee cup! Certainly a good wake up call and hopefully will see a reaction on Saturday.  Thumb up

You mention a stronger team 0762..........don't know about that as these are our strongest players available but perhaps a stronger / better formation????? ( McG may be fit I know)

I said in a previous thread our mid formation was wrong from the off but it still should've been good enough to win this match. I attended this game last night with my eldest son and must say I don't rate QOS at all - the 1-3 score line was unrepresentative of what was played in the 90 mins. They'll be a good draw for another quarter finalist IMO! But reflecting on the game itself - it reminded me of last season's Morton match at ER when it was all too easy in the 1st 30 mins of the game and we know what happened after that! Hibs took the lead with that Hanlon goal, should've finished off this average QOS side with goals from Holt and Fontaine (as described in a previous thread - absolute sitters!). IMO then it turned into a 'bounce match' when Hibs tried to do enough and maybe 'sneak' another goal. When Steven Dobbie came on, nobody in the Hibs management team or Hibs team had the gumption to at least recognise a threatening goal poacher because, up to their 1st goal, they offered very little goal threat whatsoever. My son got it right as soon as Dobbie came on to reasonable applause from the Hibs support!!!! Rolleyes
Re Hibs midfield, Bartley is a defensive mid player who needs a more dynamic mid player(s) to work alongside him. McGeouch provides that and Fyvie is another option (if fit). Also I'll be deeeeeelighted if Hendo returns to ER in the next couple of days. I think this match also provided Lennon with some answers re the form of certain players and he's got an experienced goalie who will hopefully play a big part in strengthening a defence that should not be losing the kinda avoidable goals that we observed last night. A solid 'wipe out' of the Pars on Saturday in front of a big Hibs crowd will be 'just the ticket' to push on with a serious league campaign. Nothing else will be acceptable and I expect it to happen with a different Hibs line up.
Lastly I must comment on the match referee and his decision-making re the Hamill 'incidents'. The guy had a reasonable match but, at 1-0 for Hibs in the second half, he totally kopped out of issuing a second yellow card to that minion, Hamill, for a clear, cynical foul on David Gray!!! Most of the fans in the East Stand stood up in utter amazement and protest at that refereeing kop out - an easy decision to make re persistent fouling anyway - a shocker!! Seconds later, the QOS manager subbed Hamill and we saw what happened after that!!! Thumb down I don't believe QOS would've scored any goals had that referee done his job properly in that instance.

Aye 0762 the game should have gone 2 or 3:0 but it didn't and we have to learn from last night. The midfield works only when everyone does all their jobs which last night we got lazy. In theory we had 5 at the back ( 2 wing backs) and 3 up front which only leaves 2, one of which is defensive ( Bartley) so in order for it to work others have to track back better. Having said that I expect to see a different set up for Saturday. When we had the chance to break we were painfully slow to get forward. Doh

I should think Lennon knew about Dobbie as he had him at Bolton for just the same role......coming on as a sub and scoring!

Goalkeeper is experienced and lets hope there is a quick understanding between himself and those in front.......which we didn't see last night with Laidlaw!

11 yellow cards in two games. Its like the 80s all over again Laugh

I think they will do well this season, but listening to robbie on the beeb after the game he strikes me as not being very honest at times. Moaning about how they are a young side when you can clearly see fae the team list they are nothing of the sort. Yesterdays defence of walker was basically a pack of lies as well.

Better to just take responsibility when things go wrong. I always think fans appreciate that more in the long run.

You 'hit the nail on the head' - it's all about honesty!! Are this pair, Walker and Neilson, of a similar mind?? In other words, blatantly dishonest and one is stupidly backing the other offender!! It's embarrassing to watch when, as you say, you start perusing the facts and the irrelevant shit that Neilson is uttering!! He could well be a 'manager under pressure'!
Lastly, if Hearts have already accumulated 11 yellow cards in two matches (I wasn't aware of that fact), they'll be consequently hauled up by the SFA shortly if that black form continues because it's an unacceptably high level of misbehaviour on the pitch.

Seven yellows on Sunday was a joke yes three were warranted but the others were ridiculous like wise Gordon's for alleged time wasting the ref lost control if he ever had any,Brown should have been sent off too but we all know he is untouchable,as for Robbie I have no idea what is going on in his head
