Problem Coop??
I assume if it's Celtic in the final then there's a likely Euro quali place 'up for grabs' for Hibs or United? Not that it matters too much these days as Scottish footie clubs don't generally do very much apart from the occasional Celtic Euro foray but of course dollops of money do help to progress a wee bit better than the rest.

Do the runners up still get a place??

Yep Fredster. Gordon Smith tried to change it a few years ago but UEFA rejected that proposal!

Are you sure about that, this is from Wikipedia but I think its correct: "It is possible for the Scottish Cup winners to have already qualified for a UEFA competition through their league ranking in the Scottish Premiership. In this scenario the qualification spot passes to the highest ranked team in that competition not yet qualified, rather than to the Scottish Cup runners-up." The runners up in England lost the European spot this season onward, I assume that is the same case in Scotland.

Smith must have proposed no Euro representation for any Scottish Cup winner but I thought the runners up spot was protected as well. In that case we'll just have to win the trophy outright. As said previously, it's not a big deal any more as Scottish clubs are rank awful against even mid-Euro opponents but we'll be entertained by the usual 'cheap talk' from certain players uttering the usual positive cliches but not exactly performing very well and, in some cases, are totally 'out of their depth'. |
