Wakey, I'm pretty sure Hoyle's game plan is to recoup as much of his £37 million loss as possible, which should now be around £30 million following the sale of Coady, Butterfield & Smithies.  I think he's now realised that his fortune could quickly disappear if he tries to support a competitive Championship club and as you suspect, he is now planning for life in League One where his overall running costs will be much less and easier to control.

As I've said on many previous occasions, you don't sell off your best assets in any line of business if you are serious about having any future success.  He's already made plans to prune his wage bill with the likes of Vaughan & Hammill etc, being shown the door, so in my mind it will now take a miracle for us to survive another season in the Championship.

I wouldn't be surprised if he also closes down the Academy, which has produced next to nowt for yonks and whatever has happened to Jake Charles, who was apparently destined for stardom but is now out on loan to non league Guiseley.

Theo says that he didn't think we'd get many points from our August fixtures, well maybe he should look at our October ones where we are away to Wolves. Ipswich & Burnley and home to MK Dons & Derby.  November is no easier with Reading & Sheff Wed away and Leeds & Boro at Home, whilst December see's us tackle Birmingham, Brentford & QPR all away and Bristol city and Rotherham at home, which will be our 23rd game and the half way stage.  So how many points do we expect to pick up from that little lot?

Like you and many others on here, I'm already becoming thoroughly pissed off with what's currently going on at the club and believe that the fans a being taken as mugs. Sick

What a bunch of negatories!
What's most depressing about being a Town fan, for me anyway, is not the style of football, the lack of wins, the selling of the players. No, it's the bloody negativeness of my fellow Town supporters.  Angry

Snooty,

It not a case of being negative but more about being realists, when we have to sit back and watch our owner selling off all our prime assets and failing to replace them.  Trouble is some Town fans are far too easily satisfied and have been conditioned to accept mediocrity for far too long.

So based upon our season to date, what's to be positive about - you tell me? Sick

For some clubs, being in the Championship will invariably be all about survival rather than anything else and when you look at articles like the one below you can see why!!  100m quid spent on transfers by Championship teams and that probably doesn't include wages, loan fees and signing on bonuses!!!

If Hoyle is looking to recoup his money then selling your best players is likely to be the only future you have, and obviously surviving in the championship for a few seasons.  Clubs with smaller incomes, like yourselves, either need to have a rich owner (in reality to get promoted this is a must for just about any Championship club as well), or a management team who can spot talent that can be bought cheaply and sold for good profit or have an academy that produces quality youngsters that can be developed and sold.  You have the first of these in Dean Hoyle but it sounds like he is not prepared to put too much more in the club just to take you from 18th to 14th for example, because there is no financial reward in that, and he certainly doesn't seem prepared to splash millions on the team to maybe push for a shot at the prem, because you would fall foul of FFP and your revenue would not dramatically increase even if you were challenging for the playoffs.   From what you have said also there appears to be nothing coming through the academy that can help the income streams of the club, so if the first two parts of this are correct the only option open to Hoyle is to sell your better players for a decent profit and either use that money to pay off some debt and/or put all/some of it back into the team to try to stave off relegation back to League One!

The saving grace is you will always be one of a group of around 6-8 teams who are in this position most seasons, so perform better than them and you will be Ok, but at some point things will go against you and relegation will be a real possibility.  And before anyone says anything, prior to this season we were in exactly the same situation under Mandaric, albeit with slightly higher revenues than you, but now we have an owner who is rich and does seem to be prepared to spend some money as well, so while our start hasn't been anything to shout about, for now we are a buying club rather than a selling one!!

How utterly, utterly correct. Its early September and the season has yet to unfold. Believe me the club is in better shape in an unfair, over moneyed world than it has EVER been. I think we will prevail this season and some of the criticism of the academy is misplaced. Hoyle has revamped our club in a very positive way but I, for one, can accept that his life's edeavours should not be squandered on flinging cash at the club. It's fashionable to take the mick out of the academy system but I think there's more to ours than meets the eye. Long term planning, hence loans. It will be nervy - but so was last season.
It's significant that this board has 'gone to sleep' since an indifferent start to the season [CF last season which was a DIRE start] and the same thing happened last season after eg. the home Fulham result. Powell's doing his best and he's a good footballing man. We aren't a big money club and that's a fact and, to be quite honest, I'm glad of it. Let's wait and see - or are we all trapped in the ratchet of the 'transfer window.?'

Returning to Snooty's original and very valid point about negativity I notice that Yorkshire have won back to back County Championship titles. "All bloody well and good, but what about the previous years. sack the board, coach, turnstile attendants, programme sellers ...don't know what the bloody world's coming to! Not bloody good enough"
Why has there never been a consistently significant Yorkshire team at the top level...I wonder?

I think there are a lot of fans that turn up on saturday and shelf the negative and a lot of supporting a team is about hope. But come midweek its a free for all and some people have to say whats on their mind, even if it is negative. We've had a bad start to the season and a bad summer in all fairness so people will be gloomy. The people who go onto the pitch have to change that otherwise it will get worse and theres no arguing about it

Looking in from the outside, I don't feel there's much wrong with Town. The downside on the pitch is that Powell doesn't like using his 3 substitutes and when we are struggling in a game, the players resort to lumping the ball forward aimlessly. Other than that, our players are talented enough, can play attractive football and it wouldn't take much to improve our league position. We've played four of the top six in our first six games and in the grand scheme of things, results against those teams are irrelevant, it's the results against teams around us that will determine our success/failure.

For a club like Town, mid-table obscurity is a reasonable success. The only way crowds will increase substantially is by going down to League One and winning more games than we lose. Now that's realism.
