OVER A MONTH OF SILENCE

I see we yet again scored 0. Paddy Madden seems to have freshened up our attack no end!!!!! And remarkably we remain capybara of conceding three at the other end.

It's all in the mind Dev. In someone's mind Paddy Madden was a great signing and is just messing about until the season starts proper.
At the rate we're going we might not have 11 fit players for our opening game. Grimes, Sheckleford, Palmer and yes Madden all injured. Echoes of here we go again.

Grimes is injured ......... I'll celebrate silently. I wonder if we can find a young centre back ......... or if we are going to regret a month of being busy doing nothing.

Madden isn't anything serious, just metal fatigue on his zimmer frame.

We sound as though we were quite happy to be losing 0-3 to The Blunts.

We may be new to EFL2, but we are old, far too old. We NEED a blend of experience and YOUTH. At the moment we are blending Experience with End of Career Social Care. We are becoming the equivalent of a side ward.

I just watched the highlights of last night's friendly. Are we better without Paddy?

Derby didn't look bad, but we kept on coming back and out-classing them. Banks and Grigg took their goals well. Oldaker looked better than I had ever expected at this level. James Berry's casual free kick goal makes me think he is a proper EFL player and Kane Drummond obviously came on and did what I've been wanting him to do for US for years when he set up Berry's second. He does look the real deal too.

So now we need another goalkeeper alongside Ryan Boot, who I've no arguments with, and a younger, better defender ...........

Unfortunately I can remember another season in which we gave everyone hope by winning one of our friendlies -with Donny Rovers I think - 4-0. We looked brilliant, went down to the National League!

The answer to the first paragraph is yes, no doubt. We do need a right back though as well as a backup keeper. Mandeville looked lost again.
Oldacre has shone in the friendlies. There's a very good player in there. According to BB he's a waste of space because every pass isn't perfect. If he was perfect he'd be in the Prem. Dobra wastes far more balls but he's the golden boy.

Quigley came on and played 20 mins as centre half. That's one to think about.

4 goals and none conceded against a championship side will do for me.

We did have the best right back in the National League ...... but something went wrong.

I think we lose an awful lot with Mandeville at the back. He comes out top in assists and can score some goals too.

There is a lack of pace in our defence. We'd struggle against a Colclough for instance.

I want Dobra to take chances and risk misplacing passes and giving away the ball. It's the price you pay for his creativity and the confusion he causes in the opposition. If Oldaker gives the ball away deep in central midfield we haven't the pace to deal with it behind him and it sometimes commits Naylor to lying very deep. But if he gives us all the positives on show last night who is going to moan?

4-0 didn't surprise me. It was just which team scored the 4. And it must have demonstrated to Paddy that he has to prove his worth. Three players with only non-league experience were ripping Derby up, whereas Paddy has so far created an attacking desert. He IS better than that, but like Harry Kane he has to show it!
