Ched the Footballer and the pitch
#3
I had a look at Bob`s Board yesterday - or was it Sunday; I can`t remember. It`n not something I`m in the habit of doing, but I needed a bit of amusement so thought I`d take a peek.

One or two people who, a few weeks ago, were banging on about the club`s honour being dragged into the gutter by the signing of Ched Evans (it was disgraceful, DA and CT should both resign, etc, etc etc are now apparently having kittens over the fact that we may not be able to hang on to him after October and that we should sign him up to a long term contract! As Jimmy Greaves used to say; `it`s a funny old game`. Or perhaps it`s just people, not the game.

Things look encouraging, but I`m going no further than that at this stage. One swallow doesn`t make a summer, and all that. I seem to remember `things looking encouraging` after we beat Barnsley in the opening game last season - and we all know what happened after that.....

As regards the playing surface, I think pitches generally these days are a different animal altogether from what they used to be. I can remember the days - as can a certain gentleman down in the south-west, I`m sure - when by Christmas a pitch usually had about 4 blades of grass left on it; 1 in each corner. And that included top flight clubs.I saw some good games on those pitches, to be fair, but it`s good to know that a team with our limited means can produce a surface that allows good players to play.
