After attending and witnessing the ridiculous sectarian shenanigans performed by a huge proportion of Rangers fans during the match at Ibrox on Monday afternoon, I think this is a very appropriate question/topic to raise on this Hibs board. My own view, as previously stated, is that there is no place for such sectarian poison in a civilised society or indeed in 21st century Scottish football culture, and it should be eradicated by an appropriate government or football body.
In a recent discussion on bbc Sportsound, the journalist, Graham Speirs, was asked if Rangers return to the top tier of Scottish football was a welcome addition to the game and his reply said it all for me and, I'm sure, many other decent Scottish football fans up and down the country - 'I'd relish seeing Rangers competitive return to the top flight but sadly I don't want to see their poisonous culture returning to infect the game. That's something I don't miss and it's very evident that poisonous culture is still alive and kicking just like before'. A succinct comment and straight to the crux of the matter!! Of course, some warped Rangers individuals would actually classify Speirs as some kinda bigot (lol!!!) but I always regarded him as a closet Rangers fan - very ironic! Hence the question: 'Does Scottish football really need Rangers FC in it's current poisonous form'? I think retrospectively Rangers FC needs Scottish football a lot more than many people realise but they'd better somehow 'clean up their act' sooner rather than later or other forces are gonna clean it up for them even if it means removal or hefty financial sanctions being imposed to force home the enormity of their indiscretions, some of them most certainly violent and intimidatory, and the subsequent threat to the good of the game in Scotland!!
