When we had a non-Osborne northern football powerhouse Chesterfield pretty much failed to benefit from it. We didn't get that many players from local clubs, or sell our best on to them either. Danny Wilson was a rarity going to Wednesday.
The trouble with Wednesday and United seems to be they spend more time arguing whether they are less bad than the clubs around them, than using their natural sibling rivalry to push each other forward. They're like twin cuckoos, determined to push each other out of the nest. If they could see beyond the nest, they could both succeed.
Matt, as we have only ONE player anyone would buy, Danny has pretty much got a choice between Morsy and relegation.
Can't argue with that. History shows that where Sheffield football is concerned there has rarely been a time lasting more than a couple of seasons where both teams are doing well!! I do think though that in today's money era that football is in we are finally in a position to move back towards the top of the game as for the first time ever we have an owner that has real money and one who is prepared to spend it to get us where he thinks we should be. I still think the Blunts will make the playoffs this season so they may well yet claw some of the gap back but if we can take advantage of our financial situation we should be able to stay ahead of them for a while.
I think United will miss out on the playoffs this season the last few games they've won have been 1-0 and they will hit another slump of form again like they did a few months ago. I think there are better teams than United in L1 this season such as Southend and Bradford and I would expect those two to be in the playoff places come May. It will be interesting to see if Burton can continue there form and get into the Championship it might be a big ask for them.
