Dancing mate I do think the people of Sheffield deserve a Premier League club. I agree that Wednesday, as a club, by accident and poor decision-making have got themselves where they are. Until the impossible day dawns of fan-ownership and decision-making the commitment of those who watch a team will have only a tangential impact upon what happens on the field.
The point about The Owls and other potential Premiership clubs in our geographical area is that their current playing ability isn't quite high enough to have the knock-on benefits it might have for Chesterfield. A player who would be GOOD for us would probably be in, or on the verge, of the Wednesday team. And the whole of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, traditional football areas, currently lack a single GOOD team. Is football, like money, beginning to slide slowly south, leaving only pockets of success in the north?
Oh yes, and Mr Allen ....... well I think we should be interested in what happened at Wednesday. You can't just wipe history clean. He's done very good things for us ...... but isn't there a little voice in the back of your head somewhere that doesn't quite trust him? Much as I think both Mr Allen and Mr Turner come with an amber warning, everything I've seen or heard of Danny Wilson shouts decency and trustworthiness. He'll do his best, but whether that turns round Peterborough 26 shots, Chesterfield 3 is another matter.
