Our recruitment policy, both for players and management, seems to be simply having endless "punts" and hoping one comes good.
The 2 lads who have come in today have played 8 minutes of senior league football between them.
Imray who joined last week hadn't played above League 1 before his 45 mins at Portsmouth.
Don't get me wrong, these players appear to have plenty of pedigree and youth level and Jimoh-Aloba scored in the Europa League for Villa last week.
However, is a Championship dog fight really the place to nurture players who haven't played league football before? I'm not sure it is.
Don't get me wrong, I really hope they all turn out to be world beaters and help us stay up. But for me, the window screams of us being totally skint without a clue of what we need.
The Illing-Junior departure seems strange to me. I appreciate he's been poor recently and the fan base generally hate him, but he was getting picked by the manager and is actually capable of getting up and down at wing-back, a position that the manager seems intent on picking despite it being blatantly obvious it doesn't work. Are we really that skint that we need to free up his salary to pay a couple of lads who are coming from u21 football?
I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're in the sh1t now. I don't see how we stay up with this personnel.
Not to mention the clown in charge...
This window we were desperate for an experienced leader in the centre of the pitch and we have brought in prospects.
After that, freefall. Relegation to league 1 when you're totally skint isn't a good place to be.
The few players that are worth selling - Mikey and Heggebo - will go. Grant, Maja and Dike will leave for free. And they'll be replaced with players who can't play like Diakite and Price.
Fair play to the owners for saving us financially, but on the footballing side, this season has turned into disaster.
I just hope that one of these youngsters - by blind luck - turns out to be a world beater. That's all we've got to hang our hat on.
