I’m sure there will Albion fans who will gloat at this outcome (not on this board I should quickly add) but I feel desperately sorry for the guy. Hopefully he can turn his career around with a few seasons injury free; if we were to sell Furlong - as some speculation suggests - should we consider bringing him back, assuming he’s now fit and healthy?
There is no doubt he is an excellent prospect, but I don't think I would want him back, he has already demonstrated when the bright lights call, he will be gone. But more importantly would you sign Dike knowing what you know now about how prone he is to injury ? I think Fergusson has played even less than Dike and what does it say when your club gives a 33 year old a new contract in your position and releases you?
I wouldn’t have a problem with his commitment. The guy was young and probably badly advised (shades of Berahino), an agent telling him how much more he could get paid etc. I suspect he had his head turned and it didn’t work out. I do agree about his long term fitness, it’s an obvious concern and we shouldn’t remotely consider him unless we could guarantee his future availability. That, in itself, would probably be the problem
