Do you think Brunt (or maybe even Lescott) were annoyed when  they found out that Fletcher was getting the captaincy straightaway?

I think in some ways Brunt is lucky to have kept his place in the team, never mind the captaincy. He brought precious little to the captain's table by way of cajoling and encouraging other players. Lescott wouldn't have been bothered. He knows the workings of how big clubs and good man managers appoint a captain, and there's nothing stopping him being 'captain' of the back four - he effectively is.
