Sad end to an academy prodigy

Hope he lands on his feet. But unfortunately, his career ending so abruptly and so soon pretty much vindicates (in a warped way) the decision he made all those years ago. You're a kid with enough talent to attract attention from Chelsea, they dangle a cheque in front of you that's enough to sort you out for life, you'd be mad not to take it, wouldn't you? After all, you might end up crocked and out of the game by the time you're 26, so better to have the money in your pocket.

Of course, the day will come when you look back on your career and wish you'd achieved more than warming the bench for Stockport on your seventh loan spell, and the might-have-beens will fill your head on sleepless nights. But good luck finding a 17-year-old who'll believe that...
