Sad end to an academy prodigy - 4evaabaggie - 06-04-2023
It's had been announced former Albion academy product, Isaiah Brown, will retire from football aged 26.
He may have thought he was bigger than our club, he may have thought a stellar career would happen for him at Chelski. It did not work out for him, most of his career was spent on loan but following two surgeries he has decided to hang up his boots. He created a lost opportunity, what could he have achieved playing with Albion and playing along side Saido. We will never know what could have been.
Didn't like the way he left us or his attitude towards football, he was more concerned with personal wealth than personal achievements, (have you seen my car) but I am sorry for the way his dreams have been crushed and for the devastation he must be feeling.

Hope he lands on his feet. But unfortunately, his career ending so abruptly and so soon pretty much vindicates (in a warped way) the decision he made all those years ago. You're a kid with enough talent to attract attention from Chelsea, they dangle a cheque in front of you that's enough to sort you out for life, you'd be mad not to take it, wouldn't you? After all, you might end up crocked and out of the game by the time you're 26, so better to have the money in your pocket.
Of course, the day will come when you look back on your career and wish you'd achieved more than warming the bench for Stockport on your seventh loan spell, and the might-have-beens will fill your head on sleepless nights. But good luck finding a 17-year-old who'll believe that...

OK you guys are making me feel bad and I am usually the one with the empathy, I must be getting even older and more grumpy. I am afraid I feel a little bit of "told you so", especially after "People say leaving West Brom was all down to my family but it was all down to me." and “I don’t regret the decision to leave.” Yes he has had issues with his achilles, but you have to wonder if they had been handled better earlier on, by a club who at the time were renowned for looking after players medically. I am sorry but he gets the same level of consideration from me he showed to us, he'll be alright and if he regrets his decisions he can always go for a drive, afterall, "have you seen his car".

I’d endorse everyone’s views that express the “be careful what you wish for” sentiment but, like others, I do feel sad for Izzy Brown. Regardless of chasing the money etc, it was his dream, probably from a very young age, to become a successful professional footballer like so many other kids. He managed the “professional” part but, sadly for him, came nowhere near to realising his talent, irrespective of his injuries
