I spent years working in university applications. Most of that time one of the biggest queries came from potential medical students being rejected despite a certainty of very high grades in ALL their exams. There were too few places. That situation has improved slightly. The Peninsula Medical School came into existence down here and the cap on course numbers, by which universities lost funding if they over-recruited students, changed, but we still train far too few doctors. And we spend a lower percentage of our national outlay than our European neighbours on health care. And look at the result.
I used to spend hours trying to advise students on other routes into medicine, because they felt they could do no more than gain a string of As and volunteer in medical settings for experience. One year I wrote our book How to Apply for Medicine and Dentistry, so I do know about the history behind this.
We are always run by shysters and cheats. It's just that the production of daily death figures makes it more obvious. BUT there are also good men and women involved, with whom we might not agree, but who do actually want to serve their fellow man - even some Tories Pttttaaaaawwwwww! (Not handoncock or bozza).
I'm quite happy to apply common sense and to protect other people, but I'd like to make decisions on the truth as we know it, not on some version cooked up by over-cautious scientists, big business, or desperate small business owners and ministers under pressure. Are masks any actual use for example? I'll wear one for other people's sensibilities, but am I contributing? Tell me, but if you've an axe to grind in what you say I want to know.
What kind of freedom, is a freedom not to be vaccinated and thus put others at risk anyway? Why shouldn't it be compulsory? Having sex with as many people as possible knowing you are HIV positive would be assault. Why would refusing to be vaccinated in a vaccinated world and allowing the virus to survive and possibly mutate not be an assault on the rest of us?
