I think most of us thought it was a bit too good to be true when JP shelled out £10m...
Maybe it was...
Can't fault JP's business acumen but he's been lining his pockets for some years, and
the media inflating the fee made it look like he was having a real go (for once).
I've been JP's biggest critic for his spending over the years because I think he takes
too much money out of the club (despite being a good business person). He has spent
on improving the training facilities, academy, ground etc - but that's essentially to
increase his assets.
Even if the Ideye fee was £10m, I think our net spend in the summer was still one of the
lowest, but it was certainly enough to appease me.
However if the Ideye fee was £2.5m, our spend must've been the lowest / comparable
to Burnley. Frankly, this would be another pathetic showing.
Feel a bit sorry for the Ideye if it's true, he looks like a pig in a poke at any fee, but
would probably be able to relax a bit more (at least) had he not been burdened with
the hefty price tag.
Interesting to see if any more is made of this, but if our £10m signing in fact cost £2.5m,
I think there are definite questions to be answered from the top.
