The lies about Ideye Fee! - Superbobgod - 12-01-2015 Brown Ideye was not a £10m siging or £8.8m as has been revised in press recently! I have on reasonable authority that the down fee was as little as £2.5m and that the overall package for his signing if all follow on fees are met - based on goals, apperances and stopping up bonuses, + agent fees, signing on fee and wages - then he would be a record signing, i.e more than £5.5 (Long,Sess,Vic). I attended a supporters club meeting with Richard Garlick and he was an excellent guest - very straight forward, answered everything very honestly. He was asked by another guy that must of heard the same as me and after a bit of shufflking, looking at the floor and nervousness, he pretty much confirmed the above. The Bham mail on Friday (im no good at posting links) was the first time in the press that this pretence has been dropped and Bill Howell talked about Brown being easier to move on then people think because of the fee structure. Obviously we will not be paying anywhere near the higher fees as he wont be hitting the goal and appaerance bonuses. The 2 things that bother me most are; ) Why did Peace/The club pull the wool over our eyes - i assume to make it look like we actually spent money in another poor transfer window!! ) Would Brown actually of come off and done well without the additional pressure of the '£10m failure' - media and fans (twitter abuse) would of granted far more slack to a £2.5m signing plus additions than to this mega £10m, high profile, finished article signing! I feel sorry for the bloke - he seems a good guy with the comments he puts on twitter and he hasnt moaned about his lot at all - only encouraged. He runs channels well, he just needed some confidence at the right times and is lacking physically a bit for english football. RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - Salopbaggie - 12-01-2015 Quite right Superbobgod I had noticed that the price we had apparently paid had crept down from £10m to £8m in many quarters, now this. I all honesty I don't know whether to be angry that certain parties have tried to "mislead" us, well allow us to mislead ourselves anyway or relieved that we have not forked out £10m for Ideye.. A bit of both I think edging to the side of relief. Ideye is one of a number of players Albion are keen to move on and that may not be as difficult as it sounds due to the structure of his £8.8 million summer move from Dynamo Kiev. The majority of the record fee is based on appearances and goals but even so a move to an English club for the 26 year-old looks unlikely. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-brom-tony-pulis-not-8415563 RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - Superbobgod - 12-01-2015 That's the link Salop - many thanks. As I said though, I already had information to this effect and then the question to Richard Garlick and his half confirmation. RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - Slick_Footwork - 12-01-2015 I think most of us thought it was a bit too good to be true when JP shelled out £10m... Maybe it was... Can't fault JP's business acumen but he's been lining his pockets for some years, and the media inflating the fee made it look like he was having a real go (for once). I've been JP's biggest critic for his spending over the years because I think he takes too much money out of the club (despite being a good business person). He has spent on improving the training facilities, academy, ground etc - but that's essentially to increase his assets. Even if the Ideye fee was £10m, I think our net spend in the summer was still one of the lowest, but it was certainly enough to appease me. However if the Ideye fee was £2.5m, our spend must've been the lowest / comparable to Burnley. Frankly, this would be another pathetic showing. Feel a bit sorry for the Ideye if it's true, he looks like a pig in a poke at any fee, but would probably be able to relax a bit more (at least) had he not been burdened with the hefty price tag. Interesting to see if any more is made of this, but if our £10m signing in fact cost £2.5m, I think there are definite questions to be answered from the top. RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - drewks - 12-01-2015 Blimey! As the other posts, I feel that Ideye would've had far less pressure on him if this had been known, and therefore a far better chance to succeed. Naughty JP & all - this MUST have been done to give a false impression that we had, at last. spent serious money. However it DOES come as a relief in another way that, if TP does want to move him on, it won't be difficult and also won't break the bank. Let's move on to another serious striker then. RVP anyone? ![]() RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - tidy - 12-01-2015 I can't be bothered to look back at links to Ideye from the summer. Did the club actually state that Ideye cost £10m or did they state that Ideye COULD cost up to £10m? It's similar to the Anichebe transfer. It was quoted by all that Vic cost £7m but the club had stated that the 'up-front' fee was £3.5 and could rise to £7m based on performance. RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - wba_1996 - 12-01-2015 Blimey, I thought it would have be about £6m up-front, but £2.5m?!? For a player with Ideye's previous record that would have seemed like the deal of the summer at the time, although it looks about right on current form. Also raises questions about our summer spending and would explain why we apparently have £15m available this window. Hopefully we use it wisely. RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - Worldclassalbion - 12-01-2015 Now we Know the possible truth, lets cut the kid some slack then. I'm still hoping he comes good ![]() RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - Beefy 1965 - 12-01-2015 When JP announced AI as manager he quickly got Lescott on board, After the world cup JP was still getting slated, This was a PR stunt to appease the fans and think Ok maybe we should give Irvine a crack off the whip if JP is spending this amount of money. Mmm clearly see this differently now, With the appointment of Pullis and the promised transfer funds for January I also assume he's thinking. I have a lot of making up to do here .......... ![]() RE: The lies about Ideye Fee! - Stathemwasthebestever - 12-01-2015 I think it does make a difference. If we all knew Ideye had been bought for 2.5m plus multiple add ons (or whatever it was) as opposed to to 10m (or whatever it was) it would have changed the weight of expectation on the player. Who knows, he might still be struggling but some footballers do labour with a transfer fee on their heads. If this was just an attempt by the hierachy to make it look as though we were spending it seems pretty short-sighted, cheap, etc etc. We'd all prefer a cheap buy who works out as opposed to the opposite. Cyrille Regis - 5k (long before we had 'recruitment departments'). I admire JP's financial management of the club. As far as I am aware he does not have a fortune (in premier league terms) to bankroll the club and we all know of the numerous examples of want to stay PL clubs who have overeached themselves and are now trying to rebuild in lower leagues. I suspect it is all part of the slight seige mentality that seems to exist. I believe the club would be better served by being more transparent with the fans. The above is an example but there are others. Team selection has been a huge issue this season yet, as a supporter, it is often impossible to know if a player is out of favour, dropped for tactical reasons for a specific game or deemed unfit by a fitness department that is derailed by the lack of a pre-season. We all appreciate we're a smallish fish in a big pond. The club should appreciate we understand that and treat us accordingly. |
