I think putting Ivanovic into the defence in place of either O’Shea or Ajayi would be a disaster. The guy is appalling- he has the speed of a snail and the turning circle of an oil tanker. As poor as tonight was, I would stick with our current central defenders (I use the word in its widest sense) although I understand the idea of Ajayi in midfield. We need a younger Ivanovic (about ten years younger) to play alongside O’Shea if we move Ajayi

I just feel that we need to bolster our midfield with more defensive awareness and mobility. With what we have at the club, Ajayi is the only option.

Completely get your point about Ivanovic, although I think appalling is a bit harsh. While he is slow, he's the best of the bunch in the air and still has that winning mentality which we are drastically short of. Also think he'd be good for a couple of goals as well.

Which feeds into the secondary benefit - the extra power in the air from corners and set pieces. I think we absolutely need this, given we haven't looked at all creative from open play all season. To be honest, I'd actually pick O'Shea at right back and Ivanovic and Bartley in the middle, just to boost us even more aerially. I don't even rate Bartley, but I just think we need a change of formula. Also think Furlong is dreadful.

Of course, if we could bring someone in to replace Ivanovic, even better. But with what we have, I honestly think that extra big man would give us more chance of grinding out results.

Just makes a mockery of the Hegazi sale even more. I said at the time we will get what we deserve as a club for making that decision. While I was never his biggest fan, at least he was a proper defender with experience and would walk into the side we have now.
