I don't want the PL players to take pay cuts, taking a pay cut means they pay less tax which in turn means less NI contributions that pays for the NHS!!  The PFA should be administering a program for them to donate a % of their income to causes that need it, but lets keep the high earners paying tax at this time.  There are so many more wealthy people and certainly wealthy companies that should do more.  BA made over 3b in profit last year, they have laid off staff and they are expecting some sort of government bailout - where is the outcry about that??  Football players are easy targets, and they should do as much as they can but we get so emotional and knee jerk in our expectations of them!!

I agree, St Charles, when Hancock made his ill advised comments he hadn't thought through the implications. Like a lot of fans, I think some players get paid ridiculous salaries but that's a different argument; it's a pity that the work some players were clearly doing behind the scenes to donate funding hadn't got further before he commented. I don't usually have a lot of sympathy for highly paid footballers but this has been a cheap shot. As you say, perhaps Hancock and other members of his party could direct their comments towards some of their wealthy donors and see what they're doing to chip in.....Rees Mogg's former company of Somerset Capital Management for example (in which he still retains 15% equity).....just saying.
