Yep. Plus I think a lot of people's instinctive reactions to the first half performance and the result are affected by what weight they put on this fixture overall. Those who saw it as just a distraction from the league are probably less likely to be bothered by defeat, whereas those of us who really wanted the cup run can't help but despair at how we basically threw it away in the first fifty minutes, especially since the last half-hour showed that our second string *could* give Newcastle a proper game, and might have done a lot better over ninety minutes without that self-inflicted mountain to climb.
