Who remembers the 5th Round in 1974? (Newcastle 0-3). It was a huge game back then, but the defeat knocked the stuffing out of our Promotion charge. We were well and truly stuffed that day due to Supermac(donald), Hibbitt, and a bloke called Jimmy Smith who ran us ragged in midfield, if you remember. (Funny remembering an opponent's performance 46 years later!)  
The Cup doesn't have the same magic these days, and Tuesday night shit-or bust ties show just how much the Football Authorities care about the competition.
(When I was about 10 I knew all the Cup Final winners - and opponents - since 1872. Now I couldn't tell you who won it in 2019!)

I remember it well, Talksaft. I was at uni in Liverpool and, in an earlier round, we’d drawn at Everton and then won the replay at the Hawthorns. I went to both games and we’d played well so I went to the Newcastle game full of optimism. You’re right, though, they played us off the park and 3-0 didn’t flatter them. Still, we were just starting on an upward path and the golden period of Giles, Allen and Atkinson
