The thing is its not VAR that is the problem, its the way its being used. The penalty claim before the first goal was ruled by the ref as not a penalty, so when they look at it on VAR they are only looking for an obvious error on behalf of the ref, and they didin't deem that an obvious error. Its got nothing to do with whether they think it was or wasn't a penalty, its whether in their opinion the ref should have called it differently than what he did based on where he was, what he say and what he said to the VAR ref.
