I was encouraged that successful loan periods encouraged Sheridan to hope he can find a way to keep Chapman and Yarney. And I was frankly amazed that he has offered young Charlie Wakefield a contract extension on the grounds that he can make him a better player. Wow, we actually want to improve someone. I'm sure he COULD help him!
Boreham Wood stand as an example of the difference a few team changes can make. Last season they were a serious side, but in the close season they lost the best keeper in the league and two of the best forwards and their star full-back Kane Smith was so badly injured in last season's play-offs he is still to make it back. Due to modest resources they went from challengers to challenged under a good young manager. Let's hope we're moving in the opposite direction.
I notice Dagenham are already promising to throw money at a promotion bid next season to bring in new players. Judging by Monday's result at Braintree this hasn't gone down a belter with the current crop. Orient now have the Championship almost pocketed. That means there may be some disappointed teams starting out next season. If Solihull don't win the play-offs I imagine their manager Tim Flowers will be snapped up for the EFL. If Salford don't win the play-offs they'll be sacking their manager and splashing quite a lot of cash for next season. If Fylde don't make it up they'll improve again next season and keep plugging away and Harrogate's reaction will be down to the manager's father-in-law, who is the money behind their success. If Notts County and/or Yeovil come down they'll want to go back up and will be making changes over the summer. And down at Torquay, cynical as it sounds, their hopes lie with Lee Johnson keeping his job at Bristol City and providing some judicious loans ........ but there is an appetite for more success down there, more than 5,000 turned up to celebrate their Championship win at their match at home to Hungerford.
Sheri and Snodin do need to build on what they've started. I'd grab Alex Brown from Buxton, Tyler French from Sudbury impressed Barnsley on a trial period and Charlton are looking at him now ....... if neither dive in maybe we should. And Emmanuel Sonupe has finally been getting a chance at Stevenage and has scored recently, if they're releasing I'd be grabbing.
And here's a question from Monday, why did Boreham Wood play their reserve keeper and leave Ryan Huddart the current England C keeper on the bench? He's young and if we are building for the future ..... he fits the profile.
But is cricket now anything like the game I used to play ....... and to love?
