God, we made hard work of that! We should have been 2 up in the first 15 minutes (I thought Scott Boden could score goals!) and about 4 up in the first half-hour.
I`m tempted to say that Boreham Wood were mediocre, but I think that would be doing a bit of an injustice to mediocrity. Until they got that free-kick, I was seriously wondering whether they would manage a shot on target in the whole match; and they end up scoring 2 bloody goals! (What sort of wall was that, by the way? I could tell exactly where he was going to put it about 10 seconds before he took it.) To be honest, they reminded me a lot of us before Christmas.
I don`t know what went on with the red card and the kerfuffle in their penalty area; I was sitting in the East Stand and didn`t get a clear view of either, but I don`t think the card had any material impact on the result. I think the score was misleading, but the result was fair.
That`s the first time I`ve been up for a couple of months and it`s obvious we carry far more of a threat up front than we did. Boden was playing quite close to Denton and the midfield was getting up there as well, so we always seemed to have a goal or two in us. Chapman had a good game – when they occasionally deigned to give him the ball, that is - and we really should have made more of some of his crosses.
Anyway, that`s it for this season for me. I`m switching to cricket mode now and, weather permitting, plan to be at Grace Road on Wednesday to put the mokkers on Derbyshire. Work to be done in the close season for Messrs Sheridan and Snodin, no doubt about that, but things are definitely looking a lot more positive than they were at Christmas.
