Bowery got 13 for Crewe last season, he'll probably end on 10+ this. Taking into account he's never been just a goal poacher and is in a pretty moderate side it isn't a bad return. My problem with him is I'm not sure what he is. At times he looks like a centre forward, Villa used to push him wide and that sometimes looks right and often he looks as though he should play off a central striker. If he were on our books now I'm sure he'd be getting plenty of games, but I'm not convinced we'd be much better for having him .............. He can play, he's a danger certainly. If we'd got him I'd be probably saying keep him, but he doesn't look like the answer to our promotion prayers.
The alternative to signing a striker would be getting Lee Shaw back on the scoring trail. He was once scoring at much the same rate as Dennis managed at Curzon Ashton and that has dried up completely. I know he has stepped up in class but he doesn't display the selfishness you usually see in a striker does he? Is it just lack of self confidence?
