I didn`t go yesterday, but I watched the match on the telly at my local. I got a few derisive snorts from the local Leicester City-ites when I asked the landlord to put it on, but he was good enough to do it anyway. Mind you, with the amount of dosh that I`ve handed across his bar over the years, he bloody well should be. I thought the sarcastic comments about having to have the system wiped clean afterwards were a bit unnecessary, though.
Like you, Dancing, I was a happy bunny at the end. I thought the scoreline certainly flattered us; Sutton should have been at least 1 up at halftime on the run of play (I don`t know what happened that last 20 minutes of the first half; our midfield just seemed to evaporate into thin air) but it was noticeable that after those 2 quick goals in the second half we relaxed and started to play some quite fluent stuff. Hopefully, that`s a sign of things to come now that we can finally forget the `r` word for this year. By my reckoning, even if H&W win all their last 7 games - unlikely in the extreme, I would have thought – we only need 11 max (probably 10) from 6 to be safe. I refuse to believe that even we can cock that one up. Sighs of relief all round, I would have thought.
I think I said at the start of the season that for me a top-half finish would be acceptable this year. It seems ridiculous after all the trauma that we`ve been through this season, but we could actually just about manage it with a good finish - and unless I`m mistaken 5 of our remaining games are against teams lower than us. One of the commentators made an interesting comparison between us this season and Leyton Orient last, which was apparently very similar. They finished with a good run and carried it on into this. Yes, please.
