My God, doesn`t it make a difference when you score early; it creates confidence and makes the opposition come at you.
If I`d started this thread I was going to call it ‘The Spanish Inquisition’, because sure as hell nobody expected that. Mind you, I did have a sneaky feeling; that was why I made the effort to go and I was actually thinking this morning of changing my prediction to a 2-1 win. Yes I know, it`s easy to say that after the event, but I know the way we roll; look and play absolute crap against the mediocre teams and then play well against and beat the top-of-the-table teams. We`ve done it so many times over the years.
We looked a completely different team today and young Levi particularly was a revelation; their defence really couldn`t handle him at times and, until he tired towards the end, he was definitely the leader of the line to me; far more so than Tom Denton. Perhaps he could be the creator (please note the small ‘c’; no implications of divinity) that we`ve been looking for. His potential is colossal, although the obvious question inevitably arises; how long will we keep him if he puts in many more performances like that?
It wasn`t just him, though. Suddenly we were creating openings, getting shots on goal (no idea how many, but it was a lot) and looked a completely different team. When Salford started to put pressure on in the second half (which was inevitable; they`re a bloody good team at this level) we hit them on the counter and showed plenty of resilience at the back. Burton and JBW both had blinders defensively.
I was amazed at the crowd as well; over 5,000 with only a couple of hundred or so from Salford. I wasn`t expecting that either, particularly in the run-up to Xmas. All of a sudden, the future is looking a lot more rosy.
By the way, guys, you may have to consider converting to Buddhism; it turns out the prayer wheels actually work!
