How about ....
Incorrect score ......... zero points
Correct result .......... two points
Correct score ......... four points
Bonus / gamball ........ doubles your points for that game
No need for an insurance ball ......
Teams don't lose points for getting it wrong in real leagues,, why do players need to lose points in the prediction league ..... you could have a steady run of scores every week then have two weeks bad negative scores and end up fighting at the bottom ........ fairer to all if you keep all the points you earned and that way the best most consistent scorer will end up on top ......
Mix this with the method in the original post and it could be good, but it would mean losing the insurance ball.
Incorrect score: 0
IS Bonus Ball: -1
Is Gamball: -3
And then correct scores as mentioned above?
