This illustrates the problem with the balance of the squad. There's far too many midfield stoppers for 2 roles.
Nacer Chadli is arguably our best goalscoring midfielder and did score in his only start of the season at Leicester away. Unfortunately him and Mozza, who ranks #2, have spent most of the time injured or in the cold (Under Pulis).
The majority of the others have never been prolific, even when playing for successful sides.
I do feel Phillips would chip in with a few more if we played 4-5-1 so he had a bit more freedom to break the lines. Neither Pulis' all out defence or Pardew's rigid 4-4-2 lend themselves to midfielders being allowed to roam off the forward.
