I've had dealings with Jewish people in my life, and count a good many among my mates. They make do with a fraction of the money Whelan's hoarded for himself in his life, and they're quite content with it.
So, with that knowledge and personal experience, am I allowed to say that Whelan's alleged remarks are utter rubbish straight out of 19th century anti-Semitic propaganda tracts? Am I allowed to ask for him to explain himself? Am I allowed to ask for an FA investigation of the matter if he doesn't?
Again, I point to Anelka and the quenelle. Although I was unsure about that to begin with, I accept in hindsight that I was incorrect. The FA were right to investigate that, and the club eventually right to dismiss him. For me, there's nowhere near the nuance in Whelan's alleged remarks that I originally felt there was in the quenelle; but, as I've said, I'd welcome the bloke at least clarifying his meaning, if he feels he's been misquoted or stitched up. (Anelka was also given that chance, and he blew it).
I'll also add that if Dave Whelan HAS been misquoted or stitched up, then I hope he sues the journo in question for libel, and if he successfully does so, I'll apologise for ever doubting his character (though not for calling for an explanation; I feel that's absolutely necessary in this case).
