Exactly what I was wondering re the keeper situation.

Dorel is 25 and has hardly played any first team in France or England .......... and McCormack made a lot of mistakes for Plymouth last season.

Earlier in the week GC said Tommy was close to playing again. AND Dylan Parkin was apparently much more confident second time out than first. AND Dorel must have been at the club when he said it you'd think ......... But have I ever understood Chesterfield?

One thing I liked was at both Matlock and Buxton goal situations were created by young players - Rowley and German - robbing opposition players of the ball. Anyone who has played the game at any level knows how much it throws the defence out when the ball is lost in its own half ..... and how much more incisive forwards feel when they get the ball in sight of goal with the defence looking ragged.

One aspect that interested me was that the first half team, which Pooch liked, seemed to contain six defenders. Where did they all play? They seem to have done a good job of attacking.

I hope GC will stick with giving young players their chance. I worry that Ricky will end up with a loan and other talents too may fall by the wayside. I just think at 17 or 18 what you need is games, proper competitive ones. It's the time to start breaking into first teams. I noticed the other day one of my former internet player scouted players hadn't made it! About three years ago I went on about a lad called Johan ter Horst scoring loads for Folkestone. Eventually he went to Hull, where, at a biggish club, he has never been able to come through. Never got a game. Had a loan at York, got injured, never played. Now Maidstone Utd have signed him on his release from Hull City. I reckon check non-league result and he'll soon be on his way to 20 goals for the season.

I reckon clubs like us have a real advantage in producing youngsters IF we just give them games when they need to develop. Exeter's star youngster, Ampadu, at 16, has just left them for Chelsea. Can't imagine a worse move. He could have been playing against us this season. Now he'll be just another Chelsea youngster on a production line that doesn't really stretch as far as the first team, playing a game a million miles removed from the reality of league football.

I reckon a lot of the dissatisfaction of Chesterfield fans would dissipate if they could seen a genuine production line of young talent developing and coming through. Although all fans want to win you only have to read batty Bobs Board to realise that deep down they want to feel their club has a future.
