Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - spireitematt - 07-07-2017 So we played Buxton for the GF Tomlinson Cup because Buxton now have there kit sponsored by GF Tomlinson as do we. Buxton came out in a very nice red kit and Chesterfield wore the white away shirt with the blue strip. First half Chesterfield started very very brightly and nearly took the lead soon after kick off when Delial Brewster rounded the keeper but couldn't get it on target so passed it to Charlie Wakefield whose shot was blocked. Brewster nearly went close again several minutes later when a cross from the left hand side by Jerome Binnom-Williams found Brewster but he hit it into the side netting. Chesterfield broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when a cross from Jerome Binnom-Williams met the head of Delial Brewster to head home. Sooner after Chesterfield doubled there lead when Brewster was brought down in the area by Buxton's Greg Young and Jordan Sinnott stepped up and slotted it past Jan Budtz. Ricky German then made it three when a shot from outside the area took a minor deflection and went past Budtz and into the net. Second half a whole new eleven came out and Chesterfield got the fourth and final goal after Gozie Ugwu layed Kristian Dennis off outside the area and he curled the ball past the Buxton keeper. Buxton did have some good spells throughout the game especially at set-pieces and they were unfortunate not to grab a consolation goal. Conclusion. We've got a young team which looks very very promising especially players like German, Brewster, Binnom-Williams and Ugwu. First half team: Anyon, Hird, Evatt ©, Maguire, Wiseman, Sinnott, Wakefield, Barry, Binnom-Williams, German, Brewster Second half team: Dorel, McGinn, Hand (Fowler 82’), Smith (Holmes 80’), Ofoegbu, Dimaio, Brownell, Donohue, Mitchell, Ugwu, Dennis © The keeper in the 2nd half was called Vincent Dorel who is a Frenchman who was previously at Plymouth. RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - bluepooch - 08-07-2017 It was obvious the first half team was much better than the second . We have had a good week and full credit has to go to GC and co for the excellent planning and preparation. We now need to start to step it up against better class opposition and we still need those one or two established midfielders to make the squad complete then I really will be getting excited .Ive stood in the minority against the criticism of GC and made the case that we should judge him this season when he has his own squad and Im sure everyone will agree the signings he has made so far have looked decent and I'm absolutely certain the squad will prove to be better than last seasons whilst reducing the budget. One footnote to tonights team ,are we still looking for a goalkeeper ? Yeah the first half team was much better than the second but both teams which were sent out did well. Goalkeeping issue I don't know. It is a bit of a weird one. Is the club worried Tommy won't be fit in time and won't risk Parkin on the bench? RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - Devongone - 08-07-2017 Exactly what I was wondering re the keeper situation. Dorel is 25 and has hardly played any first team in France or England .......... and McCormack made a lot of mistakes for Plymouth last season. Earlier in the week GC said Tommy was close to playing again. AND Dylan Parkin was apparently much more confident second time out than first. AND Dorel must have been at the club when he said it you'd think ......... But have I ever understood Chesterfield? One thing I liked was at both Matlock and Buxton goal situations were created by young players - Rowley and German - robbing opposition players of the ball. Anyone who has played the game at any level knows how much it throws the defence out when the ball is lost in its own half ..... and how much more incisive forwards feel when they get the ball in sight of goal with the defence looking ragged. One aspect that interested me was that the first half team, which Pooch liked, seemed to contain six defenders. Where did they all play? They seem to have done a good job of attacking. I hope GC will stick with giving young players their chance. I worry that Ricky will end up with a loan and other talents too may fall by the wayside. I just think at 17 or 18 what you need is games, proper competitive ones. It's the time to start breaking into first teams. I noticed the other day one of my former internet player scouted players hadn't made it! About three years ago I went on about a lad called Johan ter Horst scoring loads for Folkestone. Eventually he went to Hull, where, at a biggish club, he has never been able to come through. Never got a game. Had a loan at York, got injured, never played. Now Maidstone Utd have signed him on his release from Hull City. I reckon check non-league result and he'll soon be on his way to 20 goals for the season. I reckon clubs like us have a real advantage in producing youngsters IF we just give them games when they need to develop. Exeter's star youngster, Ampadu, at 16, has just left them for Chelsea. Can't imagine a worse move. He could have been playing against us this season. Now he'll be just another Chelsea youngster on a production line that doesn't really stretch as far as the first team, playing a game a million miles removed from the reality of league football. I reckon a lot of the dissatisfaction of Chesterfield fans would dissipate if they could seen a genuine production line of young talent developing and coming through. Although all fans want to win you only have to read batty Bobs Board to realise that deep down they want to feel their club has a future. RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - spireitematt - 08-07-2017 The way Ricky German played last night I can't see him going on loan. He troubles defenders, he's big and strong and can stay on the ball and not get pushed off, good at creating chances and can win the ball back if we lose it. He's got to be in the first team no question about it. Only trouble is there is a lot of good, young promising players in the first team be difficult to pick a starting eleven from all of them. RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - bluepooch - 08-07-2017 I honestly cant see Ricky starting the first game in front of OG, Ugwu and Dennis which is a shame as he has had a good pre season but what a position to be in where we have one striker plus any 1 from 3 to choose from and that doesnt include Simons . RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - Dancingwilldoit - 09-07-2017 Lets wait and see. Sheff FC, Matlock and Buxton are hardly strong opposition and we should be beating teams like them by 4 or more. The next few friendlies will give us a better indication of what we might expect for next season. The signing of McCourt will hopefully help fill the midfield but I don't know much about him. We could still do with another midfielder who can break up play. We lacked that last season so would have thought it would be the first area we strengthened. The signings so far look ok but until we have played a few league games the jury's still out for me. RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - Devongone - 09-07-2017 I tend to agree, Dancing. We're obviously capable of evo-sticking the Northern Premier with this team! Much as I want some experience alongside the young lads CO'G has to prove himself better and more effective than those young lads. If Ricky can do the same against league teams as he's shown so far, then that might be difficult. BUT IMO that both codes of rugby, having come later to the idea of subs, use them far more dynamically and intelligently than ANY football team ANYWHERE. To a rugby team coach having 5 or even 6 potential game-changing forwards competing for places would be an absolute bonus. He wouldn't be thinking CO'G, Dennis and Ugwu will be starters. The plan would be to use the five dynamically in relays to stretch, tire and demolish the opposition. Much as I complain about the sheer size and physical brutality of the current players in Rugby Union that has only become possible because of subs. Subs changed the whole game and its thinking. Football has barely moved in its use of subs beyond the fact there's no need to end up with ten men if you incur injuries. Management is selection-based ........ he doesn't know his best eleven is the ultimate managerial insult. Truth is he shouldn't, he should have options everywhere and be capable of being both reactive and proactive. I hope we change our forwards during games and our starting selections too. Maybe 60 minutes of CO'G and however the game is going we should be looking to introduce Ricky instead. Rugby teams often sub a prop who has spent the last fifty-odd minutes demolishing his opposite number ...... and you think why ..... but the new man brings something new and is fresh. Fear pervades the management of football, possibly because of the acceptability and regular occurrence of draws compared to rugby. Don't wanna lose rules football. Wanna win is the ethos in rugby. After last season's no-idea-how-to-win game, I want to see us play football that wants to win. The rules make it an eighteen player game and fourteen of them CAN get on the pitch. I reckon if the seven on the bench were looking to play a positive role in every game and that reflected the management's thought processes that alone would distinguish us from about 89 of the 91 other clubs. By the way the one thing I can say about McCourt is that he was on loan at Torquay about three years ago from Leicester. Alan Knill extended his two-month loan and praised his attitude and hard work. That said, his league experience is pretty minimal. But he's young and genuine hopes were held out at Leicester that he might be a player who could break through. RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - spireitematt - 09-07-2017 I said this the other day after Sheffield FC match but actually going to a game and watching how we play and link up it looks pretty good. Big game is 5th August at home to Grimsby. RE: Buxton 0-4 Chesterfield - bluepooch - 09-07-2017 I agree Dev it seems a common criticism of a manager that he doesnt know his best team but should he really know his best team if he has a squad of 18 who can all do a job in the first team ?.The key is to have a strong squad all capable of competing . |
