HoHo - I'd forgotten all about Davenports.
I'd be heading back to bed about then.....night out at Rebecca's/Barbarella's; home about 3; Up at 9 to play Sunday morning football; hair-of-the-dog; back home to bed; up in time for Songs of Praise; back down the boozer.
No misspent youth for me!
Sorry, DevWakey. I'm derailing your Thread.
Like all businesses, the Sponsors (eg Sky, BT) will saturate the market for their own ends, rather than what the public want. Unfortunately the middle-classes got hold of "footy", and don't seem to be letting go! The Chelsea Lovers now seem to own the game, and the sooner they f*** off and grab hold of Rugby Union the better. When I was 8 I nearly started "supporting" ManU, (following Munich '58), but thankfully everyone at School was a Baggie, and put me in my place. Only 2 months after Munich I begged my Dad to walk me a mile to my 1st match.
All we got in those days was the Cup Final, the Amateur Cup Final, and the odd England U-23 match, + 15 mins of goals only on a Saturday night.
