Reserves Not Good Enough!
As ever CC started 442 and we did poorly then when he changed it, we did much better. Too many players not match sharp and we paid for it. Turner had a shaky first half and that affected Sasso. The midfield offered no protection with Semedo, McGreedy & McGugan being well below the required standard, Semedo in quality, the others in effort levels. Turner turned a cross into his own net and it seemed we were set for a thumping at 2-0. Helan saved us three times with last ditch tackles. Second half was a bit better. Matias showed some skills. McGugan bundled a penalty in after Palmer's cross was handled. Nuhiu had earlier missed two close range headers and in stoppage time, Stobbs missed an open goal from eight yards. Wildsmith - 6 - little to do Palmer - 6 - decent but no protection Sasso - 5 - not as comfortable as he is with Lees Turner - 4 - own goal, looked rusty Helan - 7 - saved us from pasting, good going forward Matias - 6 - bright in parts McGugan - 4 - lazy & ineffective Semedo - 5 - not good enough any more but thanks for everything McGreedy - 4 - no end product Nuhiu - 6 - lots of effort but not much quality Joao - 6 - held ball up well .................................................... Stobbs - 6 - bright, missed easy chance at death We only picked up when Matias joined Nuhiu behind Joao and McGreedy moved into the centre. Yet again, the starting formation let us down & the game could not be saved, a bit like the game at MK. Stat Attack: Goals: 1 - McGugan Assists: 1 - Palmer Touches: 73 - McGugan, 64 - Palmer, 58 - Semedo, 54 - Helan, 50 - Turner, 49 - Wildsmith, Sasso, 48 - McGeady, 47 - Matias, 33 - Nuhiu, 32 - Joao, 10 - Stobbs Tackles: 4 - Matias, 2 - Palmer, Sasso, Turner, Helan, 1 - McGugan Interceptions: 3 - Helan, 1 - Palmer, Sasso, Semedo Clearances: 9 - Turner, 5 - Palmer, 2 - Sasso, Nuhiu, 1 - Wildsmith, Helan, Semedo Attempts: 4 - McGugan, 3 - Sasso, 2 - McGeady, Matias, Nuhiu, 1 - Palmer, Stobbs Attempts On Target: 2 - McGugan, 1 - Sasso Key Passes: 4 - Joao, 3 - McGugan, 1 - Palmer, McGeady Dribbles: 3 - Matias, 2 - McGeady, McGugan, 1 - Helan Dispossessed: 2 - Helan, Matias, 1 - Palmer, McGeady, Semedo, McGugan, Joao Bad Control: 6 - Joao, 2 - McGeady, McGugan, 1 - Palmer, Sasso, Helan Nuhiu Crosses (Accurate in brackets): 10 - McGugan (2), 5 - Palmer (1), 4 - Helan (0), Matias (0), 3 - McGeady (0), 2 - Stobbs (0), 1 - Joao (1) Passing Accuracy (Total Passes in Brackets): McGeady - 91%, Semedo - 89%, Matias - 89%, Sasso - 87%, Joao - 86%, Helan - 85%, Stobbs - 83%, McGugan - 81%, Palmer - 76%, Turner - 73%, Nuhiu - 62%, Wildsmith - 47% How much damage has CC done by picking a losing side? How much damage has he done by letting his first choice players go two weeks without a match? Fortunately we face a Brighton side who will be damaged by missing out on automatic promotion at the death as well as having two key players suspended. Yesterday's team suggests that CC intends to pick his starting eleven from the ten players rested after the Cardiff match plus Hutchinson & Wallace and that he will go 442 with FF & Hooper up front. Personally, I would pick Joao & have three from Bannan, Lee, Lopez, Wallace & Hutchinson in midfield. Think that will force them to defend deeper and create space for FF & Hooper to do damage. Semedo got a nice send off in probably his last appearance in a Wednesday shirt. We move on to the Semi Finals!

wallace is available yes !
i think we will need more than 3 in midfield against Brighton MS ! id be tempted to play all of them youve mentioned above at least the first half why dont we come out 4-5-1 first half and then 4-3-3 it ?

Is that 2 or 3 goals Turner has this season?
Shame they're all against us.. ![]()

Only time will tell whether this defeat affects our performance in the playoffs but it's fair to say playing the first teams didn't help other teams. Boro lost Ramirez but go up so no damage done there, Brighton lose Stevens for the remainder of the season and Derby lost Thorne to a broken leg. I suppose it's a thin line between resting and protecting the first 11 and losing some momentum!

I'd have started with Bannan, Lee and FF/Hooper and taken them off if things started getting tasty. I'd have kept Lees and Loovens in too as they would have been unlikely to see red. Wildsmith, Palmer and Helan I could understand and giving Semedo a go was a nice gesture

I think we can do it, Brighton will be still be tough despite being gutted from the weekend. They are unbeaten in 10 or so games and we have lost 2 in our last 10.
They've lost 3 at home and 2 away. We've lost 2 at home and 8 away. So we have to do the business at Hillsborough or we really will be in the shit. Still, this is Playoff territory isn't it? 3am, Jesus Cristo. You might as well have a kip about 7-8pm and get up at 2am. Here's the table from the end of last season. For anyone that cares to how it compares to this seasons standings. http://www.espnfc.us/english-league-cham...eason=2014
